Yeah they come with a 3.5mm cable for ordinary use as well, and I don't have an iPhone any more so I'm using them with a portable dac and android phone. Probably no problem for a desktop amp I guess

Ahhhhhh they have a built in amp, but it only works with the lightening cable. I get it.
Hmmm, they really were designed to be used with iPhones. Might not be worth the effort with Android.

You might be right. They were certainly designed around the lightning dac, Really nice headphones all the same.

The FIIO Btr3k is great for phones. Bluetooths to the phone and then acts as a dac-amp for anything with a 3mm jack. It’s platform agnostic so you can use it with basically anything with Bluetooth or a USB port.

Yeah, the phone app is really good, too. You can EQ the shit out of it, it’s really very granular.

No headphones thread? Anyway I bought some of these for the gym/bike after I put my sennheiser earbuds in the washing machine and I'm actually blown away by them. Can't believe how premium they feel and the sound is not a million miles away from my XM3s. Unbelievable value for the 40 quid I paid for them if anyone is looking for something cheap for the gym. www.whathifi.com/reviews/earfun-air

Are they comfortable, don't feel like they're going to fall out when you walk?

The most comfortable pair of earbuds I've had. I actually can't believe how cheap they are. Even the charge case and everything feels premium.

They do look good value, there's quite a few well liked sets in that price bracket these days.
Sadly I can't wear 'em. The type prevalent now where there is a plug down the old ear canal that makes a vacuum seal. They're virtually all you can buy but no matter what size tip I use my ear gradually pushes them out and I get a bit claustrophobic with them, can hear a mixture of breathing and what sounds like being under the sea 😂
I ended up going with Airpods like a trendy sheeple as a result. To be fair they do sound better than the wired ear pods.

Ugh. It’s taken an entirely new turntable to confirm that a couple of my most listened to albums are just shit pressings rather than IGD being a problem on my original AT-LP3.
Still, now I have project debut carbon evo and a shit copy of interpol ‘antics’ now so swings and roundabouts.

Let me just obsessively sort the hum out from this new turntable and I’ll get right on it.

I had that exact turntable so can help troubleshoot. It’s quite sensitive to pre-amp hum..

I think, touch wood, its a grounding issue. The set up is carbon->pro-ject phono box->line in to Sonos 5 (using 2x 5s as a stereo pair). I dont think any component has a metal grounding peg on any plug and theres obviously no amp in the chain to ground it to. The phono stage itself makes no noise at all without the turntable plugged in.
I farted about with it a bit last night, moved some wires and changed the socket the turntable adaptor was in and got it down to a level where its barely noticeable at the lower end of normal listening volume but it ramps up significantly with increased volume. It does, however, more or less disappear when I literally just put my finger on one of the grounding posts, so im going to mcguyver a bit of wire from the turntable to a radiator after work and if that clears it up, look at how to do that more permanently.
If that doesnt work, yeah, you might have to send me an essay on what you did.
Im now looking back on when I DJ'd and wondered whether or not I didnt hear imperfections or just didnt give a fuck. Simpler times.

You can actually test whether it’s a grounding issue or not from the frequency of the hum. Worth googling for peace of mind. But yes it sounds like a grounding issue.
I think I mentioned it before but I had the Pro-Ject Tube box and ended up sending back as I just couldn’t get rid of the hum, although that was with my new turntable, not the Carbon.

I didn’t get it with the last turntable and I used the same phono stage, so it’s definitely the new one. And it’s consistent whether or not the platter is moving so I don’t think it’s the motor. I have been evicted from the living room so couldn’t try to ground it, annoyingly.
But, other than the hum, it does sound great. I know I keep going on about it but I listened to the new Low album for the first time on it last night and it sounds gorgeous. I was really pleased with it.

Is it the Ortofan red you’re using? I found the Nakaoka 110 a very decent and affordable upgrade for when you inevitably get to that point.

It is, yeah. It’s kind of how I ended up at a new turntable. While I was chasing IGD around on the AT I upgraded the cartridge to another AT one and then the next step after that is the ortofon which is 100 quid by itself. So the ‘just punt the turntable if youre spending 100 anyway and get a PDC’ is on the table and then an eBay code comes up and if you’re doing it, you might as well get the evo…
A story I’m sure you’re familiar with.
And, yeah, during the obsessive research phase, I think this turntable actually comes with that cart as standard in the US so I do have half an eye on it already.

I really should stop reading this thread. It makes me want to jump in, despite not having the space, time or money. But the spod in me is itching to.

I would definitely struggle to integrate that into my house/way we live. I virtually never get to listen to music properly. Living room taken over by the kids for 12 hours a day, despite being where the AVR and speakers are. Kitchen has the Play 1 for background stuff. Dining room a crap Alexa for radio. Earbuds for everything else. It'll be my retirement thing.

SITREP: I just jury/jerry (which one is it?) rigged a ground wire from the turntable to a radiator and the hum pretty much vanished at non-obnoxious volumes, so I just need to somehow make that permanent in an unobtrusive way or find a better way to do it.

Does your turntable have a grounded power cable? Like this: www.project-audio.com/en/product/high-power-it/You could just get a regular plug and leave the positive and neutral unconnected. Run a wire from ground to the turntable and plug it into a wall socket. That's your real ground anyway instead of the radiator. A less DIY solution would be to contact the turntable manufacturer and ask them why you're getting hum but it does away with an external grounding cable. Could be a fault in the PSU.

Looking for some headphone assistance please. I managed to lose the charging case for my Airpods 2nd gen and I'm wondering where I can get a replacement? All I can seem to find online are covers for the charging cases but not the cases themselves. Any advice appreciated!
