Should Marijuana (Weed) Be Legal in the UK?

Human beings are literally made to get high.

That’s how our entire system works. Do something that is good for the individual’s evolutionary prospects and you get a squirt of dopamine, which makes you feel good. All drugs ultimately come down to this system, similar to how all foods boil down to sugars and how they get used in the body. I mean shit, our brain has receptors in it that specifically function to bind with opioids.

Trying to ban drugs is a fool’s errand. As has been so ably demonstrated in every fucking place on the planet throughout the entirety of our species. There are drug users and abusers in countries where the penalty for possession can be death.

The only rational course of actions- which also happens to be the one which cause the least harm to society and protects those who slide into abuse - is to remove any criminal element from any drug, other than offenses against the legal commercial framework of distribution.

Altering the mind is why human beings are human beings. There’s a solid argument to be made that getting fucked up as simpler hominids led to use developing these big ass brains that begat all of human civilization.

Also, what someone does to their own body is of absolutely zero relevance to anyone else *unless* those actions have actual negative effects on other people, (having a sad because your neighbor likes smack does not count). The vast majority of negative actions in our current state are all functions of the illegality of drugs.

I agree, but it takes a normal, steady person to experience all of nature's highs (food, love, drugs, joy etc) in moderation and not to the point where they are negative and destructive to them and people around them.

We don't need to ban drugs (mostly because we can't), we need people to be well balanced and capable of making good decisions. But we can help people make good decisions by legalising and regulating drugs. Isn't smoking and drinking in decline amongst young people? Maybe cos they're thrill seeking elsewhere or they're too busy on tik tok!

It's a tragedy that people who duck slowly or can't duck at all end up suffering, whilst traumatic experiences fly over the heads of the rest of us.

rhaegyr I'm not a user of them, but a mate* bought a Black Mamba off Amazon for about £30 and said it works as well as his previous £300 one, it's just a bit bigger, but still pocketable.

I'd be tempted to try something like that first and see if I liked it before I spent hundreds.

*seriously, not me. I'm not anti-weed, just not a smoker any more. I wish I could trust myself to just have the odd puff of weed, but I'd be smoking fags again before I could blink and I'm never going back.

You won't get that same initial whoosh hit from vaping (or edibles) that a joint or a pipe will get you and it'll take some getting used to, but it's just as good.

I think that sometimes catches people out and so they have a load of pulls on it and then half an hour later they're dribbling in the corner, talking to the wallpaper.

Regarding CBD oil, I've tried it on and off on a few occasions for a number of weeks, mainly to help with sleeping, pain and anxiety. I found it definitely helps a bit with all three while you're using it, but for very short periods of time, and the rebound effect is real. Meaning all those things spring back with a bigger accent once the CBD wears off.

So in my case at least, they're not the wonder treatment they're made out to be by a lot of people.
