Name that tune in four... yes, it's Mozart's funeral march for Lionel Blair. *Chopin

Used to love Quantum Leap, such a great premise with loads of scope for TV. I’d no idea he was 85…RIP

Dean Stockwell was a child actor going all the way back to Errol Flynn films.
He's terrific in Blue Velvet. Let's drink to your fuck, Frank. RIP.

Another one for the Dean Stockwell appreciation. Him and Harry Dean Stanton in Paris Texas.

Ah, that's sad. I'm watching Quantum Leap re-runs on Sci-fi at the moment. Al would be #metoo'd to oblivion these days but Stockwell is great.

SpiralScratch: Isn't that Dennis Hopper? I don't think he was in that film, though I do believe he and Stockwell were close personal friends...

Snake Nope, that's Harry Dean Stanton. You were right, Hopper wasn't in "Paris, Texas". Stockwell did appear in a bunch of Hopper's films and apparently it was Hopper who urged him to go into acting so i'd imagine they were good friends, yeah.

Apparently "lowtax", the founder of SomethingAwful, died. Judging by my Twitter, he was not well liked by the community there.
I was never there, more of a Fark lurker before EG.

Dunno what he was like irl. But his online persona (from what I remember) seemed the sort you could imagine popping up in obscure places to rant about SJWs or whatever.
Still, RIP. Something Awful was ridiculously influential in the early-mid Internets.

Its still ridiculously influential, albeit in a legacy kind of way. You could make quite a convincing argument that lowtax banning hentai on the SA forums led to the Jan 6th storming of the capital.
Certainly, and I dont think many people realise it, the vibe on EG was modelled on being a 'British SA' for quite a while and still persists a bit, if heavily diluted.

I've never heard of Something Awful - was it like Stile Project?

I've never heard of Something Awful - was it like Stile Project? I photoshopped a stormtrooper helmet on to a picture of a fat man and had it published on Stile Project. I am very proud.

Probably a bit late but if any sub-editors are reading this, referring to him as 'FW De Clerk, the man who freed Nelson Mandela' is like referring to Jimmy Savile as 'the man who gave so much to childrens homes'

I read loads of his books as a young lad and I just read one of his newer books on the last month. Shame he's fine. I might just go and reacquaint myself with the Courtney's.

Stephen Sondheim. After watching a fitting portrayal of him by by Bradley Whitford in Tick, tick… boom last week it’s come as a bit of a shock, but hey, 91, and an enduring legacy can’t be all that bad.
