Danno he was a casualty of my current migraine. I thought it made me look like I was trying to be something or other and that maybe it was annoying people. Kind of wish I'd reinvented myself when I came here as I get the impression I'm not liked by some. Anyway, tomorrow is a new day and I'll get over myself and this migraine. It's not that deep. I think you're putting too much importance on a few silly posts. Don't worry about it. I didn't even question your story fwiw

I know it is me, when I get these migraines I get very "woe is me" and can go down a very dark place very quickly. That happened an hour or two ago and is not been helped by me trying to do too much today. At the moment sound hurts. Today was also my last day of leave and I'm dreading Monday as I'm covering 5 roles including my own for a fortnight. That and the thunderstorms will be why I've got a migraine. Anyway, sorry, I don't want to make this about me. You'd think at my age I'd be made of sterner stuff, but I'm still the immature, shy pillock I was decades ago. Thanks again, I'm going to read and try and get out of my head.

Thing is, wherever you go or however many times you try and reinvent yourself, you'll never get on with everyone. There's hundreds of people here, don't worry about a couple

Anyone whose played the C&C remasters must have appreciated the remastered DOS installer, complete with setting interrupts for your Gravis Ultrasound.

Just had an odd memory of a boot disk I created specifically for this Compac laptop circa 1993. CGA blue on grey screen with no refresh rate to speak of and masses of ghosting. I managed to fenagle said bootdisk into creating a ramdisk and copying command.com over to it, so the damn thing wouldn't require the disk to be inserted every time you typed something into DOS. I'm not sure how, but I managed to play through the whole of Titus the Fox: To Marrakesh and Back, The Blues Brothers and probably a couple of Keen games on that screen.
ed: Gremmi, your avatar looks like the balloon on my avatars snake's head just realised their physics situation is bullshit.

My first ever PC was ยฃ2,500 (tax free) and was a 486 DX with 4mb ram, 120mb hd, cd ROM drive, floppy drive, 14.4k us robotics modem and sound blaster. I remember is came with encarta and I spent ages playing every video on the cd over and over as I thought it was amazing. I think it was Windows 3.1, but I had to do the boot config stuff a lot to get things running. How the buggery fucknuts do you remember how you paid for a PC 30 odd years ago?

I remember how much I paid for a lot of stupidly expensive things back in the day. ยฃ2,500 was a lot of lolly back then.

I can't remember how how much I paid for my house, so I am probably far gone in the other direction.

Olivetti 486SX (no fancy pants floating point operation for me) but with a huge 4MB RAM, later upgraded to 8.
First game I played on it was Return to Zork and it was legit the greatest thing ever. FMV! Full speech! The future was now!

Yeah, I definitely remember the cost and spec of my first PC. Probably the next five or six of them too. 486DX2/66 in the hizzous! Two grand! Had a 2x CD-ROM in it too. I was late to the party, I made my A500+ Amiga last long over its sell by date.

Suggestions welcome.

I stil remember the Gateway 2000 desktop I coveted as a teenager, ยฃ1999.99 for a 200 MHz pentium with 16mb or ram. I could only dream, it was the fastest machine PC Pro ever tested

I'd do that Aliens detector thing if it didn't weigh about 50lb.

The number of different companies making beige boxes back in the day was insane. Got to differentiate yourself somehow. Cows as a good as anything

Odd that they went cow over, say, tiger, leopard, croc, jaguar, or literally anything else that both has a pattern and isn't defined by standing around all day chewing.
Actually I sort of respect that.
