Yeah, I read that. People are absolutely mental. The occams razor is that its an old, venerable city, filled to capacity and has tiny winding streets that are completely unsuitable for modern usage. They discourage cars because the city literally cant cope with them.
I turned down a job in oxford because the 20 minute as-the-crow-flies drive into town would have taken well over an hour by car/bus/train/bike. It was actually faster for me to get to swindon (for the job I subsequently took)

Grifters gonna grift - Katie Holmes turning to traffic management as part of the NWO was surprising at first, but guess they got to keep moving to the next made-up outrage.

Unless it's marked as private spaces, you can't really stop people parking there, but I do understand why people want to park right outside their own property. It used to cause ructions on our street in Bristol, at least two of my neighbours would completely go nuts if anyone dared to park outside their house. We had a drive and rear parking so as long as I could get to those, I didn't really care and tried not to get involved.

Swindons alright. It has a weirdly bad rep but its actually one of the most stealth affluent places ive been to. Common knowledge is that its a dump but it has a lot of blue chip companies in and around it so you quickly notice that everyone is driving BMWs, Audis and Teslas.
All that said, the town center *is* an absolute shit hole. The town council took the active decision to murder it by allowing a designer outlet village to be built within walking distance, so its just vape shops and empty units now.

The real catalyst for my annoyance was that when my mom lived with us, she was always very ill. Moving was extremely tough for her. She was on oxygen 24/7.
One day we brought her to the doctor and when we came back someone had parked in our space. A small curb was difficult for her at this stage, despite being in her early 60s. We obviously parked on the road and walked her to the house very carefully but even this extra distance took a lot out of her. We've also had to carry children and shopping a fair distance in the pissing rain etc.
I know they have as much right to park there as we do, and I certainly won't be leaving a note or anything, it's just that it's a bit inconsiderate. Rant over

When I had the temerity to park on the street a few doors down, the neighbour came round and asked if I could move it 'in case it got damaged'.

That sounds an awful lot like a threat...

Innit! LegendaryApe, could you have not asked the council to designate the space in front a disabled one?

Can the cunt that keeps setting fire to the derelict nursing home that's on my way to work just stop it. You've done it 3 times in the last 4 months, and each time I've been at least 45 minutes late to work.

It does make a change to the usual 10 minutes late excuses I give most other days, I guess.

A takeaway near my work has had its shutter roller unit fall off the front of the building and land on some passing pedestrians. Police, fire brigade and ambulances all in attendance.
They’ve put up an instagram story to say sorry we’re closed for lunch but they’ve used a picture of the roller while it was still on top of someone with text overlaid to do it. Like real Wizard of Oz prone legs from under a heavy weight stuff.
They could’ve done the announcement without including actual suffering people receiving medical care, right?

This! The mental imagery of someone stuck under a rollerblind/security thing tickles me. This makes me a bad person, but

Eeurgh. Work asked me to pop to Leeds to do some trouble shooting and run some presentations. Not an issue, it is 6 hours each way but I can work on the train and it is good to catch up in person occasionally with my teams.
But a landslide means all trains from Bournemouth cancelled so journey up tool 8 hours due to replacement buses, missed connections, overfull buses etc. But shit happens and that is why I go up a day early.
But fuck me. I am trying to get home. No trains, all coaches booked up. Critical meetings that I can attend on train, but can't do on a crowded coach.
I now have a choice between probably a nightmare journey home, delaying even more work I am already behind on and having a weekend to recover. Or just say fuck it, book a couple more nights here in Leeds, get work sorted then have a very long but not stressful journey back home Saturday where I am not worried a missed connection will mean I may only get home at midnight assuming I don't miss the last available replacement service.
Fuck I hate public transport.

You could fly? Spend 6 hours in Dublin airport. Or can you not go via London or something rather than direct?

Or move/delegate your meetings for tomorrow and travel back then. You can still work offline on the bus or whatever.
