The pets thread aka my house smells of cat/dog/other piss

Whoops. Didn't realise that would be a new page post again.

Doing some adolescent training at the moment, much prefer this new trainer.

However, I wonder if zom agrees with this, I wish trainers would take into account their novelty factor when they're demonstrating something with your dog. Of course he's now doing it perfectly with you, because you are a reward for him yourself as well as the treats. I see it on TV a lot as well, and I'm sure they do it because it gives them a bit of an ego boost for them.

We've had much better progress when the trainer is watching us and giving suggestions on how to get the behaviour. Thankfully this new trainer keeps it to a minimum, but still there's been a couple of moments where we've struggled (because he's a distracted pup who's far more interested in all the other dogs) and she's jumped in to show us exactly the same as what we've already been doing and now he's doing it, and I've been biting my lip and nodding.

TIL cubby is jealous of those who are just better at dogging...

Talking of training, we start our classes next week. Looking forward to it.

I need to also start teaching her not to maul my face off when I get home as she's so happy to see me, but I find it too amusing. It is bad though.

One thing she is getting better at is sitting, lying down and also (crucially) responding well to a wait command at the roadside before crossing.

Still wanting to chase every fucking car though. I'll speak to the trainer about this.

Ours starts smearing herself across us trying to scent mark while purring loudly and pressing in for strokage.

I quite like it.

Our big lad likes to practise his operatic singing at 4am. He's very loud.

It is usually the precursor to jumping on the bed and demanding snugglies, by rubbing, purring and even further singing.

Gotta love cats

With this current mog we have to leave the patio doors closed or local fauna gets munched in our living room. Which is annoying in summer. We hope she learns that snacking is an outside only activity.

I don't mind giblet detail *too* much, but don't appreciate the use of live mice as toys. Especially since she tends to let them escape right by the house. Stupid cat.

Mice are for eating too.

I have to make regular apologies to nature, but hope winter & especially the bird migrations will limit her ability to reduce small mammal numbers for a good while.

oh god we had one who liked frogs too, god that's a horrible noise, my sympathies

(same cat also bought us a slow worm once - and I don't care what the biologists say, that's a fucking snake)

(brought us a budgie too. budgies, you may note, are not native to the uk - we bought it a cage and a mirror and a cuttlefish and everything while trying to find out which of our neighbours was missing a pet but the poor thing dropped dead, guessing from stress, a couple of hours after we'd bought everything)

(same cat also tried to fit a seagul through the catflap. she was a menace)
