Oh - I thought this trick was only for new members? So if my GPU subscription lapses in a few months (when it's due) I'll be offered the "£1 Trial" again and subsequently can load up on 2-3 years of Gold and convert it automatically once taking the trial offer? £1 trick is just for newbies but returning members can do the £6 trick instead eg just but one month of GPU to convert your 12/24/36 months of pre purchased Gold to Ultimate.

They usually do the £1 for anyone who isn't subscribed when events like E3 happen.
cdkeys had a month for £5.99 when I needed it a month back to convert my gold to ultimate again, I just stacked 2 years.

Agreed. Very enjoyable dialogue between the characters. It's a long old game though and I'm starting to wish for the end of it. Not due to quality but I think it has gone on long enough. I can understand that. At this point it feels like the gameplay is getting in the way of the story.

For me it hit the perfect sweet spot. I wasn't tired of it but I knew that three, four more hours and I'd have wanted to just rush through and finish it.

I hadn't realised Weird West is coming to Gamepass! Very nice, that would have been an almost certain purchase for me.

Hadn't heard of that for some reason but it sounds right up my street. Love those "oh, nice!" moments with game pass where you fire up the app and start preloading something.

Just went to install it on PC and nearly fell out of my chair. You can actually pick which specific folder to install games in now!

So, rumours of a Game Pass Ultimate Family sub for 5 accounts sounds interesting. I'm paying for 3 at the moment and they are not in sync, perhaps if the price is right it would be a handy way for bank of dad to pay and manage them all. However, child1 will be at uni come September, so maybe not such a good idea to be supplying gaming crack to someone who should be sampling all that a uni has to offer!

If it's 'family' as in people in the same location, it's useless to me. But if I can use it with friends .... Actually I still have two years left on my £1 uprade deal, so I'm not sure it would count.

Has anyone played Ori and the Blind Forest: Definitive Edition? I've never felt such ambivalence about a game.
It looks great and the platforming is enjoyable, but now I'm towards the end of the game I'm finding it hard to forgive a lot of the game's certain frustrations.
One of the main problems is that everything is a glowing orb - Ori, projectiles, items, power-ups - so scenes can quickly become visually chaotic, especially during combat.
Also, in the latter stages of the game, there are far too many skills to have to constantly keep in mind, and some just don't seem to organically gel into the gameplay. I think less would have been more here.
I also got to a point where I was completely stuck (big thick wooden bridge blocking my way, no idea if it was potentially breakable) and had to look up help online. The solution was to backtrack to a very particular area, find a hidden switch in a tree, then explore 2 new DLC areas, to then get a skill that allows me to break the bridge. This wasn't the case in the original version of the game... the bridge was breakable with a basic skill unlocked relatively early on.
I realise this is a metroidvania, but it felt like an artificial barrier was just plonked into the game, forcing you to go back and explore *somewhere* (no clues whatsoever) just to give the new DLC areas relevance. I could have been stuck here for days without help, and probably would have just given up on the game.

I played it a while ago and would agree with this. My general frustration was that the game was in that Celeste region of platforming but was marred by combat which was both pointless and annoying as mentioned.
Thankfully the sequel improves on the original in almost every way so would happily recommend giving that a try. It really is a beautiful game.

Yes, the main reason I'm playing through Blind Forest is so I can then play through Will of the Wisps and experience the glorious 120fps mode.
Just need to put the first game to bed.

LiS- True colours is the newest one? Noice.
That'll be a palette cleanser when Elden ring gets to the controller snapping stages in the later bosses.

There's a game I've just seen coming up called Trek To Yomi, by Devolver Digital and available now for pre-install.
Anyone jonesing for some Samurai Kurosawa action in black and white should have a look, this looks freaking good. If the combat is good this could be special, the cut scenes look phenomenal.

Speaking of devolver, only played an hour but weird west seems kind of shit. Although o suspect that’s at least partly due to the fact it’s clearly meant to be played with a mouse and keyboard.

The combat requires a bit too much precision, yeah. The slo-mo helps a lot.
Give it a chance though. Once you settle in, the game itself is actually a bit special.

The game is brilliant but the combat is really not very good. Everything moves far too fast and having to use slowdown to make the game manageable isn't a good solution. It's a shame as other than that there is a lot to love.
It was enough to stop me playing though as combat is a big part of the game.

Hmmm, I would recommend the pretty mode over 120fps, as I could not see any difference at all between 60fps and 120fps

Yeah, seemed nice but couldn't really tell much of a difference between that and 60 TBH. My TV only does 1440/120 IIRC so I had to mess about with display settings a bit to get it working in the first place.
High refresh rates feel a lot more impactful on FPS games when you're sitting right in front of the monitor.

I can easily tell the difference on my LG OLED when playing Mass Effect Legendary Ed. or Doom Eternal @120fps - when I pan the camera things don't turn into a blur like they do at 60fps.
With Ori's relatively slow horizontal camera movement it might be less evident though.

Yeah I can imagine games where you control the camera it is a lot better/more noticeable, but Ori is a side scrolling platformer, I honestly couldn't tell the difference at all.

One of the games in the current play for points monthlies/weeklies is Firewatch, a first person adventure game.
I started it just to get the points but have ended up carrying on with it.
It's quite relaxing to play, and a well told and captivating mystery story, set in the remote wilderness of Yellowstone National Park in the 80s.
It won 2 BAFTA Game Awards for Debut Game and Performer, and IGN gave it 9.3 and it has strong reviews all over.

I finished Memoir Blue. I think it took about an hour or so. Very touching with a lovely atmosphere and music.
