I would have thought Dune would be in post production at this point and not affected by writers and actors strikes.
Hopefully it won't get delayed but we have waited long enough so a few months won't be the end of the world, but isn't the Oct-Dec period the money making slot they don't want to miss?

Possibly delaying it to spread a weak portfolio out further? I'd imagine next year will be dry as fuck.

I think a delay would be because striking actors are forbidden from promoting anything, so no Timmy on Graham Norton or Zendaya eating hot wings. But if they're looking like not having films to release in March or May then that could also be a consideration, sure.

Forgot about the promotion thing. I do wonder if such things really make any tangible difference to ticket sales, particularly for a sequel.

I'm inclined to think it wouldn't make much difference to Dune, but it might to the other films mentioned in the Variety article. I've also seen the fact that the star of The Flash couldn't do any promotion cited as one of (many) possible reasons for its failure, so if WB are looking at data like that they might become very wary.

Well that was fucking brilliant and I'm annoyed at not getting out to the screen for it.
What a punt by WB

Oh man. I cannot wait. Looks fantastic.
A bit premature, perhaps, but I would love to see Villeneuve go on to Messiah / Children of Dune as he's considered. Hell, I'd love to see him do God Emperor but that is certainly not going to happen.

It looks fantastic in that trailer. I know Ridley Scott likes to do big scenes but there’s really no one in Hollywood doing scale like Villeneuve. Even in the trailer it looks like its huge and has actual weight to it.

Fuck yes.
I honestly think part 1 is a stone cold classic and I'm so hyped about seeing the story unfold. There seem to be rumours that he's adapting the second book too. I love that book almost as much as the first but not sure I want it filmed.

Looks amazing but I'm gonna have to rewatch the first one before I go as I can't really remember what happened 😅 I'm similar, despite being a massive Dune fanboy - Villeneuve managed to miss out all of the interesting political stuff and I ended up bored, as has been the case with all of the films I've seen that he has directed. I'll give part 2 a chance, but part 1 was a major disappointment for me. Dune1984_4Lyfe

Yeah, I know the story, it's like Ive just completely forgotten what is in the film.
I do the same with games, I'm forever starting stuff over.
I'm going to have to replay ff7 before part 2 as well as I only played it once when it first came out (even though I played the original to death) 😅

Dune part 1 was a bit weird in that it has this amazing spectacle, large scale scenes, good acting, good music, etc... but it's still as dramatic as it could/should be. All the iconic scenes from Dune1984 felt a bit flatter to me, maybe because they were played in a straighter and more restrained way. That said, it was definitely still worth seeing on the big screen, if only for the visuals and the ear-drum-melting sound design.
I think that's mainly Vilenueuve's style, as I found the same for Arrival. Blade Runner 2 was the only one of his I've seen that I felt had a bit more emotion.

I've heard that complaint a lot. He creates emotion through tone and mood rather than through dialogue, in my opinion. I really connect emotionally with all his films, but I guess if the style doesn't work for you it's going to feel cold.
