My CPU is too old. How humiliating. I just discovered the same. A 7th Gen Core i5 is apparently not supported, even though my machine meets all the other requirements. Bah. Mind you, it’s probably no bad thing just to leave it. I remember having a nightmare trying to upgrade my then-current Vista machine to Windows 7. And it takes a lot for me to think I should’ve stuck with Vista.

Same here.
I currently have 4 Windows PCs at home (two are mine, two belong to work). None are more than three years old. Weirdly, they all pass the TPM requirement, but fail on processors so there's no chance I'll be upgrading anything.

I haven't had any issues after updating my surface pro 7 but then again I shouldn't considering it's MS hardware!

Game performance seems the same.

I have a small laptop I take on holiday, thought it was quite swish, but the processor isn't up to it. Updated my desktop after a BIOS fiddle, I'm liking it. I was about to fire up a Linux distro for a change of scenery, but will stick with this for a while.

Does seem odd that Ryzen 1xxx is excluded but Ryzen 2xxx is ok. They are basically the same chip and run on the same motherboards.
The list of supported cpus appears to be so random.
Personally changed my Ryzen 1600 for a Ryzen 3600 then 3800X didn't change anything else and it now meets all the requirements. Same X370 MSI motherboard, same ram etc already had the latest 2020 bios so didn't even change that.

Crap, was planning to wait until Win 11 was well established before getting a new laptop but sods law had other ideas and my main machine failed at the weekend. Some kind of hard disk failure, chkdsk says it's going to take 20+ days (?) to finish checking it.
So I've bought a new one. Question is, is Win 11 stable enough to upgrade to now before I put too much on this one or should I wait a bit?

It's fine. Some glitches with AMD stuff currently but that's just driver stuff that'll be sorted out, and the TPM stuff aside I don't think there's a compelling reason not to, other than personal preference. if it's going to be a fresh install regardless. But I don't think it matters if you hold off either.

Seems fine after a week. One or two niggles. The taskbar wont move and you have to poke about in the registry to alter its size for instance.

I'm half tempted to try and put it on my laptop but it wont be going on my main PC until I've waited a few more weeks
If the gaming performance is mostly the same then there is no rush. Working HDR would be nice though

Going to wait a few months before I give it go. Hearing performance issues on Ryzen CPUs makes me want to wait until stable drivers are out.

I still haven't been able to figure how to install this. Configured AMD's CPU-based TPM from within the BIOS, but no dice: "PCR7 binding is not supported"

Is the upgrade process essentially seamless? I can't be bothered reinstalling apps, games or settings at this point.

It was for me. The biggest problem I had was getting Windows Update to push the update. It just kept saying that my PC was Win 11 ready and to wait as they push it to users in waves. I had to find the page with the installer on Microsoft's website, but once I did, it was seamless. I think it asks at the beginning whether you want to keep your files and programs or not, then it just goes.

Mine upgraded painlessly. Mostly steam games were installed at the time but it didn't kick up any compatibility issues.

Yeah, I'd recommend just getting a spare 8GB or larger USB drive and using the media creation tool to make a bootable USB and just launch setup from that while still in Windows, instead of messing about trying to get Windows update to find it.
Then if you ever need to do a clean install in the future it'll be there waiting for you.
It was a pretty painless upgrade on my two devices anyway.

Caved in and went back to a clean install of 10 seeing as 21H2 is out now. Lots of annoying little niggles, and a network driver issue on my main PC. The main one that did it for me was the bloody start button not registering clicks. I'll stick with 10 until there's a compelling reason to upgrade.

I've been putting off hitting the update button. Is the general consensus that it's not really worth it yet then?

For the most part it's perfectly usable, but I'd personally give it a year and hopefully 22H2 irons out most of the little issues.

I've upgraded to it, but then my wife's work said she needed Windows 11 installed (which I find highly doubtful).
It seems okay. Supposedly is a bit slower than 10, but it's still faster than she can type, so it's okay. Looks pretty and the multiple desktops might be handy.

Can anybody help a PC noob actually install this?
PC Health Check tells me "TPM 2.0 must be supported and enabled on this PC".
I've an MSI X570 and a 5800X. As far as I am aware I've changed BIOS mode to UEFI. I've explored the TPM options, and supposedly enabled the CPU's own security module. The step I fall down on is (I think) the computer now needs to use Secure Boot. I had enabled this option - changing the motherboard setting to use the default keys - but when I rebooted I was left hanging on a black screen for a long, long, time. I couldn't see any warning lights on the motherboard. I restarted and turned off that option to continue with my business.

I know this is really silly but have you updated the bios to the latest version?
My MSI X370 has had several bios updates resolving TPM issues, and the latest even made the Windows 11 compatible settings the default. Which sorts out if missed something.
