As anticipated, MS had an about turn on their TPM stuff and removed it from the requirements so that everyone who has 10 should be able to get 11.
Which leaves me wondering what the point is. It's just a facelift, there is nothing changed beyond that.
Still, it is a bit prettier.

They should be able to get it but are cut off from formal support and updates, which still leaves most enterprises up shit creek.

So far I'm yet to see any features that I'd miss out on by upgrading. My pc is new enough but I'll let others beta test it for a few months before I consider moving.

I do like that tpm may actually bring an end to the rampant cheating in pc games though. That's a long way away at this point though.

I want an end to cheating as much as anyone but not enough to trust Riot (or any other dev) to install software that runs on boot and monitors my system all the time. Why can't it just run when I start the game?

A bigger issue with pc cheating is that now crossplay is becoming a thing it's affecting other platforms too. The plus side of this is it will push companies harder to combat it. I do understand that people are hesitant to give that level of access to their PC's to companies but it is currently the most effective route to cheat free gaming.

There's fuck all they can do about cheating at this point. They've even made aimbots that work on any platform, all you need is to plug your HDMI cable from your console or PC or whatever you're playing on into a PC with a capture card and the cheat AI will watch the screen and control your aim for you while outputting the game to your TV or monitor. It's proof of concept at this point, but it'll find it's way into the wild at some point soon.

Also it requires quite a bit of set up rather than just paying some cunts a subscription and downloading them. I don't think it would ever be overly prevalent in that format.

He did, but only because he was posting his development progress publicly in a proof of concept type way. It's only a matter of time before it spawns any number of copycats.
Also, people spend a lot of money on hacks, and it's money that goes to developers in poor countries.

So having played around with the beta for a bit yes: It's windows 10 with a couple new features and a more smoothed out interface on the surface. To me (and admittedly this is a very long time ago so bear with me here) it's rather similar to the windows95 -> windows98 upgrade. It'll feel familiar. I'm guessing that aside from the TPM requirement there's just a lot of under the hood changes and fixes though. I think that the biggest deal is that with the upgrade to windows 11, people who stay on windows 10 will just get an operating system that they can get used to rather then something that changes every year and ocasionally bricks your OS

I've had this for nearly a week now. So far I really like it. It's basically a reskin on the surface but I like that it's a bit easier to get around. The central taskbar is fine with me. I'm used to it already. You can change it back to the classic left if you like, but I don't mind.
The only thing that is nagging me is that I don't have a clock on my second monitor. I don't know why they've removed that.
They should let you have the same taskbar on both monitors.
Overall really good. Apps look a lot nicer with the rounded edges.
But mostly it's just Windows 10 with a lick of paint. Nothing wrong with that.

I'll put it on my spare laptop to play with but it's not going on the gaming PC until it's been out and road tested for a while
On a side note, I've just seen an add for it on TV. Last time I remember a Windows as was windows 95' start me up

Decided to just bite the bullet and stick it on my PC and laptop now instead of waiting for the 5th, which will be the same version that's already available anyway (22000.194). They seem to have sorted out the sluggish menu animations that put me off it at first.
Some nice new QoL improvements, but at the same time some weird changes that'll take a bit of figuring out (no option to show all system tray icons now, and the old reg fix doesn't work)

I've been using Win 11 for a few months now and I'm a fan. It's not a vast leap from 10, but the changes are generally welcome. Haven't encountered many, if any, bugs/software incompatibilities - been pretty smooth sailing. I wouldn't hesitate to upgrade in this instance if you are wavering.

I installed the Insider beta but it didn't seem to change anything important (for me) and removed some small but useful features (such as right-click taskbar -> Show Desktop). I reverted back to 10, I'll update to 11 when it's a bit more polished or I don't have any choice.

I wanted to give this a try so installed it on a spare 480gb ssd in dual boot after figuring out how to download the official iso file, forgot to sign out of windows insider so the win10 build updated itself a day later giving me dual boot win11 bah.
The fresh install only has iracing on it but it’s more stable with the game not limiting fps, more stable even at the heavy tracks like Nurburgring GP passing the stands.

It told me I had to turn on TPM2.0, which I did via the BIOS. But if they are still insisting on that for normal punters, they won't be upgrading.

Huh. I got the message telling me that TPM is disabled. Guess I need to root around in the BIOS…
