I had that exact conversation at lunch. A colleague was saying ‘not everyone out is far-right’ and, yeah, strictly speaking maybe not but they were dumb enough to be following bullshit spouted by more intelligent, actual far-right figures who were smart enough to stay at home. They were at the very least far-right by proxy.
I am also ok for people being put away for being stupid.

It's amazing how many people seem to go to bat for these guys. Trying to somewhat defend their corner makes you a defender of clear cut racism. What the fuck is wrong with people?!

At what point do you feel sorry for thick people being manipulated and exploited by social media algorithms and bots, tabloids, certain news broadcasters, and more intelligent racists much higher up the ladder in society who can sow discord and whip up the plebs with impunity. I don't. But i wish there was a way to get to them to face consequences too. Not sure about ‘feel sorry for’ - but those fuckers are clearly not the problem that needs to be solved.

It's absolutely fantastic seeing the sentences that are being doled out for both active rioters and commenters on social media.
Its been such a forceful response from the govt and i hope they continue to make examples of anyone who they can get hold of who were involved.
I don't have any sympathy for any of them, even the very youngest ones who have probably been fed on this hate all their lives.
I'm trying to stay away from social media though, as its just disappointing to say the least seeing some of the responses to the sentencing updates.

Maybe a fair number of rioters don't actively identify with the far-right, but they're still allowing themselves to be whipped into a frenzy by noted scumbags like Fox, Musk, Yaxley-Lennon, and Farage. Maybe it's just me, but before I grabbed my 12-pack of Strongbow, my favourite balaclava, and a dozen or so bricks, I'd do a few seconds' worth of online research to see who the chief agitators were. But what if the internet was down, my phone was flat, or I was in a hurry to catch the next bus? Say I somehow ended up at a far-right rally/riot/'protest' without knowing what I was getting into. Perhaps I'd heard about what happened in Stockport, decided that on balance I was opposed to kids being stabbed to death, and opted on a whim to pop into town with a view to attending a vigil of some sort. I like to think it wouldn't take me long to realise what kind of company I was in. Kind of hard to look around at the FASHion on display - English flags, swastika tattoos, jackboots, camo, etc. - and hear the chants of, "Take our country back!", and not cotton onto the fact that you'd fucked up massively. If you know you're getting into bed with vermin like the above-named individuals, and do it anyway, you deserve whatever you get. If you don't realise what you're getting into, but wind up trying to set fire to a hotel that may or may not house asylum seekers (instead of, I dunno, running the hell away as soon as the penny dropped), you deserve whatever comes your way.

If you are seeing riots on tv with people setting fire to buildings, throwing bricks at Mosques and wanting to attack anyone that isnt white, and you still decide to go out and mill about on the streets in order to make some general point about immigration you are tacitly supporting the far right.
It should be obvious, but to a lot of people it doesn't appear to be.

I don't think there's any excuse for falling for populism and demagoguery in the internet age, when you have all that information at your fingertips.
Sure, it's easy to end up in an echo chamber - and I'm as guilty of that as anyone else - but when you're at risk of crossing the line into outright criminality, you owe it to everyone (yourself included!) to get your facts straight first.

Unfortunately demagoguery is still highly effective, and can be utilised even more powerfully in the internet age.
Whomever these people are behind the media etc they understand very well the psychology around it, similar to the way the psychology of advertising is so effective to the point billions is spent on it every year.
You don't need facts, logic, data or well reasoned nuanced arguments. You need repeated headlines, slogans and catch phrases to condition peoples thinking. Even better if you have an enemy to focus on.
Once people have identified with a mental position; political, idealogical, whatever, it becomes part of their sense of self on a deep level, and it is then virtually impossible to reason them out of it. You are not going to change their minds with facts or reason.
Which is why its so dangerous when that psychology is weaponised, and it's scary how all pervading it appears to be in our current times.

I don't think it would take a particularly complex venn diagram to see the correlation between the far right nutjobs of the last few weeks and the most vocal anti-vax/anti-mask people during the pandemic.
It's quite ironic that the most easily brainwashed and manipulated section of society projects that weakness as if it's everyone else that isn't capable of critical thought.

The insidious bordering evil element to it all is the right wing hacks and politicians projecting this far right rhetoric to the masses and creating this hate, clearly don't believe a single word they're saying. It's purely a means to whatever their own personal goals are, whether ambition or wealth.
I've zero sympathy for anyone caught at these "protests" as already said, as soon as mosques and hotels were attacked it was clear what they were.
That said, alot of people are gullible. Whether age, or just a genuine lack of intelligence. So much so some truely believe Farage is a stand up guy, who talks like the everyman and tells it like it is.. And TR just a fella brave enough to stand up.
So while that doesn't excuse the idiots, it does sting that the ringleaders behind it ala Farage get to simply treat it as another say at the office.

It’s such a weird time we live in, very much the era of the grifter, talentless fucks taking advantage of the perpetually stupid and emptying their bank account in the process
Politics - Farage, Yaxley-Lennon, scummy con men taking advantage of the weak. Reform isn’t even a real political party, it’s just a massive grifting organisation. Trump too, a useless slob who is inexplicably popular
OnlyFans - rank old hags selling pictures of their badly packed ham sandwiches to incels Also see Paypigs - manipulative sex workers on social media just literally asking mugs to send them money for nothing in return and they do it, wtf
Sport - complete helmets like Goldbridge, who know nothing about sport at all but are seen as important by the sad twerps who know even less. Also the football / onlyfans crossover grifters like Astrid Wett, who again are just taking advantage of thick, horny morons
A don’t see much difference between an influencer and a grifter to be honest, both of them are just taking advantage of people to make money

It's really nothing new. Yer auld da thought whoever you talked about was a bag of wank too.
People just like echo chambers, and they're a lot easier to find today. With content driven algorithms it's almost impossible to avoid.

Impressive that the police and the courts have just gone ahead and arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced these people, all without politicians needing to jump up and down in parliament telling everyone that they don't have the necessary powers to deal with these people. It's almost as if we actually already do have all these laws in place and we don't need to start creating new ones that open up potential for abuse.
In regards to this being a lot of the gullible and not really targeting the real instigators of this, unfortunately it feels like swift justice needs to take the place of dealing with the root cause of the issue. Hopefully, that will come, and the media and social networks are going to get a rude wake-up call forcing them to get their act together. However, in order get the rioting to stop the last thing we need is someone like Fox, who has clearly said things that would cross the line into hate speech and inciting violence, to drag out a court case that will be all over the media for weeks on end.

The fash rally and counter-protest in Newcastle both had their locations moved by the Police so instead of being at the Monument in the middle of town they’re now down the Bigg Market.
Looks like a decent turn out at the counter and another bottle job by the far-right.

I am looking forward to the media and the politicians taking note of the much larger groups that came out for the counter protests, who were holding up signs saying "refugees welcome" and celebrating the work immigrants contribute to the essential services in our country. That should make them reconsider the rhetoric around the debate, right?

Had a look at her onlyfans offerings on a onlyfans pirate site (simpcity). Urgh, who would pay for that. Apart from a sex tape, mostly mild stuff.
