I'm with Vortex, I like the chewy flaky type pies. I like a puff pastry top, definitely. But it's not a pie if it's in a dish with the top plonked on. Needs a proper pie base. |

I had a Fray Bentos pie once, pain to open and then discover it's not a pie.
Telling children for the billionth time to use the paper towels to dry their hands, not their jumpers/trousers/nothing.

Our local butcher (award winning as they like to tell us all) sells family sized steak pies in tin bottoms with flaky pastry on top. They are so nice i could probably eat one on my own & it pains me to have to share with the family. Are you going to argue with a butcher who has knives & cleavers and shit? If they say it's a pie, that'll do me! Single pies, i can just about accept as a sealed unit for eating on the hoof for lunch, or at a match. For my dinner at home, no thanks, then i want luxury single tier flaky pastry lid only with a hearty meat/gravy mixture. 😀 |

The problem with a pastry hat approach is that the actual filling can easily end up with the incorrect meat / gravy ratio. If your left with a dish half-full of gravy and *nothing solid* it's gone wrong imo. |

I quite enjoyed making short crust pastry recently for a quiche (ridiculously easy if you've got the patience to keep everything chilled).
Might have to try my hand at a pie next. With a pastry base, because I'm not a fucking monster.

The local rag & bone man drives down my road once a week with this song blaring out, with him intermittently getting on the mic saying "Any washers, bikes all types of scrap metal collected". It was an entertaining novelty 7 years ago, now it just gets on my tits.

I've still not got any idea what it is he actually said over the tannoy. You could hear him approach in the distance, slowly getting louder as he got nearer, with the clip clop of hooves acting as a strange metronome under the droning call of "aannneeeeeeeeee ohhh eeeee - ooooohhhhh aaaaaaaye" |
