Second viewing last night. It mostly holds up although there are still quite a few oddities around Safin's motivations. I'd say his motivations make absolutely no sense. It really was a pointless character.

Yeah. I just can't fathom the guy at out all. There was just nothing to go on with him. Still didn't stop me enjoying the film, but definitely the weakest aspect imo. Also, I thought the new 007's execution of the Russian Scientist was a little bit sudden, odd and out of character with what we knew of her so far, and he was another that I couldn't quite figure out if he was truly bad or just been shoehorned into Safin's plans.

The interviews where they talk about the villain really don't match up at all with what went in the film. I assume a lot must have been cut. Yeah. I just can't fathom the guy at out all. This didn't really bother me tbh. Seemed like she just got sick of his "lol we don't even need a virus to commit genocide" shit.

I think he makes a comment about wiping out her whole race and she thinks "Fuck this" and Sparta kicks.

So the AV Club have this as the worst of Craig's Bond films. Daniel Craig Bond Movies, Ranked When exactly did the writers over there disappear up their own arses? There is no universe in which this is worse than Quantum of Solace or Spectre.

I got that, and that comment was also a bit sudden. It just seemed bit of an about turn, perhaps if he was more overtly supremacist previously. Maybe he was and I missed that, but it just seemed to come out of nowhere.
I'm nitpicking now though tbh, as I really did like it. Just wish certain aspects were a little bit clearer for my slow and easily confused brain.

I mean, that was Safin's plan wasn't it? To wipe out certain ethnic groups? I know it was mentioned that the little virus bots could be coded to do that, and if so, that's obvs why the Russian scientist was in league with him, but as I say, it was just never really made clear apart from that one comment and if that was the case why was that their aim in the first place .

Wow that's embarrassing Any movie where an old woman, being chased by assassins with big guns, just sits on a church pew for 10 minutes whilst an old man looks for a candle isn't exactly a good movie It was complete and utter shite

And that's after they try to escape via a field, shining their torches back at the chasing assassins in case they lost them in the darkness

I've come to realise from this thread and other discussions how divisive it is. I can hardly remember it to be honest, which maybe is not a good sign. Need to give it another watch.

I was tempted to watch this Friday, my local cineworld (which is shit) has decided to charge £20 a ticket so they can fuck off. What?! Is this a joke? Nope. When I looked for the same day and time a few days ago they were charging £14. They must have seen there’s a huge demand so hiked the prices. It’s such a shit cinema as well, I’ve been before and half the picture was on the ceiling for the first 10 minutes. The nearby independent one is charging £7.50 but at times I can’t make.

Yeah I might watch it again to see how I feel I might get more annoyed about it as some chap in the office, who had never watched a Bond movie previously, came in and described it as "totes amazeballs" and that always stuck with me He's the type to get completely swept up in hype and all the Olympics, 2012, Skyfall period was just "totes amazeballs" for him

Most Bond plots are stupid though. You could pretty much rip most of them apart if you really wanted to.

I think that's the problem when you start making Bond (slightly) more grounded and giving him relatable problems. He's not a superspy in space anymore and people start nitpicking 'well, that's unrealistic'. Same as Nolan Batman. Make it more grounded, people start nitpicking.

Nope! Don't forget that he sent Bond on a scavenger hunt around the globe to find him purposely. So he could get caught for no reason other than to do a Dark Knight interrogation/breakout rip off. Pure trash. No Time to Die was fine, and prob the second best Craig one imo. The action was good, and it was pretty good in most of the Craig films tbh. But the story has been fairly bobbins the entire way through, and I really hope they don't attempt combining 5 films into one shit convoluted story again. Malik definitely one of the best they've had as the villain, but criminally underused and just came off as some wannabe Hitler.

If they'd just thrown in one quick scene that established his motivation and plan for the end of the movie, it'd have solved the only big problem with the movie.
I can't help but think that they must have had a scene that did that and cut it because the movie was getting too long. BUt it didn't feel long and I'd much rather have had them put back a few more Safin motivation scenes.
I never met people who didn't like Skyfall before. Interesting.

Saw this last Sunday, oddly quiet cinema (then realised it's showing every half an hour across 6 screens!).
Liked it, just about a 7/10 - not up there with SF or CR, although SF does seem a bit Marmite for people.
Great soundtrack, visuals, but too long and a weak baddie. Brilliant fight scenes, and 2 Aston Martins.
But it's Bond, on a big screen FFS, what's not too like.
OHMSS Is my favourite btw.

Went to see this yesterday, thought it was was great cinema fodder, didn't look too deep into the plot etc, it's bond so I'm not expecting anything other that great action set pieces, fast cars and beautiful locations and you certainly get that. I'd say this is probably my second favourite DC bond after casino royal, less cheesy that skyfall and certainly more memorable than spectre (glad I re watched it this week) and quantum. Sad that it's the last DC will do, hard to tell the direction they'll go next but I'm hoping it's not a complete reboot.

I said it a few times on the other place, but Dame Judy Dench's M ruined Bond films. The more she screen time she got, the more ruined the film became. So Skyfall is the worst of the Craig films.
Placing M, a desk bound, anonymous civil servant into major plot device at every opportunity is just lazy character development. Same for Q, really.
I enjoyed NTTD, but it featured a painting of her for no good reason.
