My vague argument against that is: does it really need to go with the concensus, tho? Thats the point of criticism, right? And, most importantly, who cares?
I do see this argument a lot and I dont really get it. As long as the review isnt 'this game is terrible, I had to enable noclip to get through the boat section' it is just someones opinion. And as tedious as their frequent 'white people cant make games about china' hot takes are, I do read EG because its not a regurgitated press release with 7/10 at the end. I can read a dozen other reviews that tell me how stable the frame rate is but they do frequently bring up more esoteric things I also personally find boring or tedious in games.
Like, for example, their Ghost of Tsushima review is one of the more lukewarm ones for it, I dont think they gave it a rating. Not the concensus but I do agree with it as I found/am finding it incredibly dull.

Yeah! Down with mildly interesting discussion! Tell us what the frame rate is like! Interesting discussion is fine, we all do it, sometimes, but I feel like this kind of thing happens a lot where someone brings up an EG review "not being like other places" and it derails the thread because they take it as a personal attack. I propose we just talk about Alien 3 if someone mentions EG and their reviews. Because like you said at the beginning of your quite interesting post "who cares?".

Literally one person seems to have a copy and he seems busy actually playing it, and the discussion is about the actual game being reviewed and the wider wacky world of reviewing. It wasnt derailing anything because there is nothing to derail yet. I like a thread to be as absolutely banal as the next person, but I thought it was quite an interesting thing being brought up for once.

Do you know what else is interesting? EG was the only site I agreed with for Callisto Protocol.

I did say it was interesting and I didn't say the thread was derailed, but again the EG review nonsense gets brought up a lot, now ironically we're derailing the thread. Shall we just stop here because I think you're an ok dude and I don't want to turn this into a you and user Aubergine thing like in the DC thread.

Anyway very much looking forward to playing this tonight. Not sure what difficulty to play it on, I usually choose normal as I find that most games just increase enemy health and damage as opposed to actually changing the systems of a game to make it sing.

Same but I am tempted to go straight in at the deep end with this one.

Not sure what difficulty to play it on, I usually choose normal as I find that most games just increase enemy health and damage as opposed to actually changing the systems of a game to make it sing. Same but I am tempted to go straight in at the deep end with this one. Im a Dead Space veteran and started on Hard, I am glad I did. I did complete the original on hard with just the plasma cutter back in the day.
The enemies were always aggressive whichever difficulty you chose. However I can confirm that they do take a lot more damage to kill on the harder difficulty setting. I have always felt like I have plenty of ammo though, never come close to being short. Only on chapter 3 though so time will tell.
I died once, but it was because an enemy blocked my path and i got hit by the centrifuge spinning about.
If you are very familar with the series then I would say go Hard. Otherwise choose normal.
Also,a tip for newbies.....you can shoot off the arms (the bladed ones) from the enemies and then use telekinesis to pick them up and fire back at the other enemies. This also works on the enemies you have already defeated. It can save you ammo and is a lot of fun to impale them all.

Is anyone finding Isaac speaking distracting at all? Haven't really seen it mentioned in any of the reviews I've read.

He only speaks during the story bits, when all the main characters are speaking to each other. At all other times he is completely silent so it doesnt break the immersion at all.
I much prefer Isaac with a voice. The fact they got the same voice actor as DS2 & DS3 is the icing on a very sweet cake.

I wasn't going to respond to Decks as I know he was taking the piss but... From the pov of someone that hasn't played the original, if I didn't know it was new I would have never questioned it. His character is spoken to and responds to things that make sense within the world and events. It's pretty seamless.
It's noticeable that he doesn't react to things as would be expected though - for example when the necromorph first shows up and skewers his colleague, he just stands there behind the glass, unflinching. It's that level of stuff at all times that sets stuff like Naughty Dog's output apart, and would have been a obvious addition here.

Is anyone finding Isaac speaking distracting at all?. He’s voiced by Alan Carr and he apologises every time he shoots a limb off, but you quickly get used to it

I've only heard him speak when a conversation starts up after you've done something like freed up the tram. 15 seconds of everyone talking including Isaac, then you're off again to do the next thing. In silence.

If you just stood there, then that's on you!. You could of easily shook the left thumb stick and made it look like Isaac was having a panic attack.
