Hi all! 18 years on EG, mostly lurked for last 10 but was gutted to hear of the forum closing - I think EG underestimate the amount of people that don't care about the main site. Anyway, cheers for setting this up - I can't get on with Discord etc, hard to keep up. Looks like a great start already  |

Hello All, I lost my EG password years ago and just lurked ( like most others ) with the occasional post from a Joey Deacon sock. Which sounds wrong on so many levels. Is Peej back yet ? Did not know JoeyDeacon and clivedunn one and the same. Joey gave great lurkage (peej is lordofthedunce I believe) |

So MrTom the EG moderator only found out via Twitter rather than being told by EG, even they don’t give a shit about him In fairness, if he's an unpaid volunteer mod, which I think he has said he is, this would be entirely normal. I've done similar stuff myself in the past and it's been really clear that the corporate motherships tend to regard volunteer mods either as an irrelevance or a risk.
If you want a forum like the EG one, then you either pay somebody to moderate it, or rely on volunteers. The problem with volunteers is that you don't have much control over them. If one of them does something that hurts the corporate reputation (and this can and does happen), there's not much recourse.
I suspect this may be why the EG forums never brought on any more mods. Free moderators for company-backed forums have been going out of fashion for a while. It's probably not worth getting rid of the ones they already have, but they're not going to put much effort into the relationship.

It’s actually better, it takes you to where you’d read to last.
I’m on the phone in FF and I got around the category debacle by pinning the newest threads link and now when I tap on the address bar I can just tap the pinned icon. One tap more than before, but much better than loading the category page, scrolling to the bottom and tapping the link there…
