Is there anything on the Switch that you'd recommend at the moment that is like EOB (and its successors) or Dungeon Master? I might find I no longer have the patience for them, but I used to love them back in the Amiga 500 days. Strictly realtime like Beholder and DM? Not sure if Vaporum is realtime or turn based but there are 2 games in that series on Switch I think. I had considered getting the first game at some point but haven't got around to it yet. For the turn based there is the Experience stuff like Sapphire Wings/Sword City and the upcoming Labyrinth of Yomi are fairly traditional. It is a shame Zanki Zero didn't get a Switch port as it is pretty much a realtime beholder style mixed with a survival sim in a bright colourful post apocalypse.

Have you tried the GBA version of Eye of the Beholder? It's unlike any other version, it's business as usual until you get to your first enemy encounter then the perspective switches to an isometric tile based view with turn based combat. It actually makes far more effort to create a D&D type of experience than the original did.
I wish the source code was out there because with some tinkering to fix problems like some sub par art assets it could be ported over to PC or anything with better resolution than a GBA to clean up the rough edges and make a pretty interesting alternate version of Eye of the Beholder. I wouldn't miss the original combat at all, attack, backstep, attack, backstep, attack, backstep...
I played it a little, an odd mix of EOB with GOLD BOX style combat from what I recall. Is it actually decent enough for a full play through? I can't remember if I own it or not though...
I'm not sure about committing to a full play through it's pretty interesting to play around with. There's a lot more to explore in the character creation, rather than presets there are D&D style choices to be made in skill point assignment which make things far deeper than just selecting a character class.

Mentioned this in the "what are you currently playing" thread, but I started Persona Q (3DS) for the second time last night. Absolutely loving it, it has the great exploration and map making of the Etrian Odyssey games, and the fusion mechanics of the Persona series. The combat system is that winning combination of being quite difficult in the beginning but ripe for exploitation once you suss out the mechanics and figure out different character builds etc. Very satisfying.
Also some genuinely funny bits of dialogue and great writing. Recommended.

Can't really say at the moment as I didn't finish it the first time I played it and haven't got that far this time. You choose which of the two protagonists you want to play as, then the other crew join after the first dungeon. It's not really a continuation of the story from either game as it takes place in a separate world and is really just fan service to get the characters from the two games together.
I chose the P4 MC to play as so the P3 crew haven't turned up in this playthrough yet

Haven't played 5 either so I'd also take that. More than anything I'd want 3 though - was my first Persona and got really attached to all the characters, Aigis especially, and the world. The story is HUGE (end of the world stuff). FES was great too I guessed who the killer was in P4 really early on (first few hours), mainly because after 3, I was wary of the 'goofy harmless friendly character turning out to be the villian' thing. The story felt much more small scale though overall. I still loved a few of the characters though (and social links) so still really enjoyed it. Chie, Kanji, Nanako and Dojima mainly

I'm hoping for some sort of remaster for the 25th anniversary

Highly recommend it whenever you find a way to play it. I think it works pretty much flawlessly via emulation if you get impatient You also get to run around all the locations in 3d
The annoying thing about P3 FES/P3P is that they both add things not available in the other versions. Would love it if they did release a new version with everything from both included

I see that Demon Gaze Extra has been confirmed for western release in December (9th). Not sure I need it personally having the original on Vita but I do recall it being a bit more beginner friendly than a lot of the genre (not as much as Ray Giant of course, which remains Vita and PC exclusive)

I see Numskull are releasing Undernauts in Europe which is unusual for an Aksys game. Also apparently been delayed until 2022, but no delay mentioned for the US release yet...
If there is a disparity I may have to import it, but then again, big backlog... Still no sign of any limited editions.
I think Mary Skelter Finale is next week too (Europe and US) but still need to play through the prequels...

My local CEX has both the first and second one on Vita in stock and I've been thinking about picking them up. A bit pricey though (£32 and £50) I've nearly finished Persona Q now, in the final dungeon.

I didn't play all the way through DG1 but it was pretty good from what I remember. A little anime silliness going on but not as bad as some examples in the genre. I have the sequel on Vita too but not played it as I haven't finished the first one. I think it was got a slightly worse reception than the original. They are a bit more modern and user friendly than some of the other Experience stuff (Ray Gigant being the most mainstream friendly but only got a physical with LRG, I did finish that one with a platinum trophy though)

Seems confirmed that Numskull are delaying the European Undernauts release until next year, I am guessing for release parity with the PS5 release. There is the off-chance that I would get some patches on the cart ready but they are making it hard to support my local market when I can import it this month...
I really don't see this selling well on PS5 anyway. On the other hand will I even get around to playing it before next year's release with MS Finale and SMT V out over the next month.

Publishers get more bang for their marketing buck if they can get multiple versions out in the same release window, so it's entirely possible that one version can hold back the release of others. It's definitely happened before.
I've seen publishers do all sorts of strange things in that regard.

Last night I booted up void tRrLM();//Void Terrarium...
Good grief, never should so much effort be expended merely typing out the name of a game. I could just say it's something of a Roguelike dungeon crawler, but even by the standards of a sub-genre that can be a bit quirky Void Terrarium is a bit on the eccentric side.
There's a real sense of melancholy to the game contrasted with a soundtrack at the forefront that I guess would be classified as Synthwave, generally soundtracks have receded into the background in recent years meanwhile this one is loud and proud.
I really don't know what to make of this.

You will have to let me know if it is any good as I did look at it due to the team bit wasn't convinced enough to buy it. And yeah, the more indie side of NIS do like odd titles like this and HTOL:NIQ (which is probably incorrectly spelled). As an aside with my Undernauts release date rant, despite the delay they aren't even advertising the PS5 version which is what I assume they delayed the rest for. Still debating whether to wait or import as my backlog means I likely wouldn't get around to it any time soon. Received my Mary Skelter:Finale LE now which was a bit bigger than anticipated with 2 LE size boxes and the game included (one containing the novels). Still need to play through 1 and 2 though. Despite being my thread I am bad at getting through my DRPG backlog

You're putting me in a tough spot, especially if you want the PS4 version which just stays at full price permanently. The PS5 version is probably cheapest and has been on sale a few times.
Void Terrarium is fine I put a few hours in yesterday evening. Good points, it's not punishing like some of these games can be, there's an actual difficulty curve rather than a cliff. The presentation and premise are interesting and it does all the usual Roguelike things well, with a nicely judged progression on each dungeon run with seemingly randomly assigned skills that can change the difficulty of your run quite drastically if you're lucky.
It's in a very particular niche though, one that has been incredibly well served in recent years and there's only so much Roguelike most of us can get through in a year before burnout and wanting something else. You've got so many options, not only that there are fan translations of previously Japan only titles, recent ones that come to mind are Rogue Hearts Dungeon for PS2 and the N64 Shiren game.

And NISA has finally announced a localisation for Labyrinth of Galleria (subtitled The Moon Society) for Switch, PS4, PS5 and PC. Not out until early 2023 though. I still need to properly play the first one... Have heard good things about both games though.

Yeah I've had the first one for ages but not played it yet. No doubt I'll get the second one when it comes out.
Been holding off playing Persona Q2 until I finish P5R for the first time, and I'm really looking forward to it, been in the mood for an Etrian Odyssey style game for a while now. I absolutely loved PQ

I have so many half finished Etrian games after I finished the first one back in 2009... I am torn between wanting them to figure out how to make a sequel and actually playing all of the ones I need to finish still...
Not properly played PQ or 2 either (I did complete vanilla OR bit not played 5R as I kno how long it is...)

Is there any old school dungeon crawler without party members nowadays? Something like the old Elder Scrolls games, Anvil of Dawn or Stonekeep?

That's an interesting question, none immediately spring to mind, will have to think about it a bit more. There were more around Stone keep (Lands of Lore 2 was just the one character?). I suppose you have the Piranha Bytes games... I assume Elex series remains single character. Not very old school though.
