Labour take Rutherglen and Hamilton West then. Low turn out as expected but wonder what that means for a GE. Conservative candidate lost their deposit!

It shows they can potentially take Scotland from the SNP and get a clear majority. Next up is Dorries' seat I think.

Their polling has fallen, but it's still ahead of the alternatives and seems pretty resilient. www.electoralcalculus.co.uk/polls_scot.htmlNothing rouses rabble like a bit of nationalism innit? Even if you are a bunch of clowns. The fact that SNP/independence are playing from the same rulebook as Tory/Brexit yet the former use the latter to justify themselves is fascinating imo.

I think the attacks on the SNP will at least open up the chance of more Labour seats back in Scotland.

I know nothing about Scottish politics, but I'd have thought the SNP's troubles were likely to be short lived and that by the time of any general election they'd have mostly recovered?

The point is that the SNP have an actual point. Regardless of what you think of them or their party, the case for Scottish independence is pretty cast iron when you look at the absolute shitshow that is UK politics and when you look at how well similar sized European countries have done in the EU.

I can't think of many English people who would actually begrudge Scotland sodding off on their own

Same as the DUP, I cant imagine *why* you anyone want to remain welded to a country that actively dislikes you. Same with the Welsh, tbh.

The labour candidate was around here for Dorries’s seat. He’s got a funny head.
I’ve never had so many people at the door from labour and Lib Dem’s. Don’t think the conservatives have been around once, although we never open the door to them.

I can totally understand the political argument for Scottish independence and can totally sympathise with it. I don't know if it makes any financial sense though. We are very aware of how cutting ties with your neighbours goes for the national bank balance and I can't see how it would be much different for Scotland. I expect they would be able to re-join the EU, which would likely help, but that will be a long process.

The Sturgeon "scandal" will come to nothing. The basis of it seems to be that money raised for a referendum campaign that never happened was spent on other stuff like multiple unexpected general elections instead. They don't have many wealthy backers from the oil/oligarch world!
Compare the pictures of crime tents outside her house, to what the Tories seem to get away with unchallenged though, it just looks really bad.

Is indeed a huge boost for Labour.
I think we will see a drop in SNP at the GE, but I don't think they are done.

Indeed, I don't think they'll collapse or anything but I think they will lose most of the 13 seats they gained in the last GE. That was very much a fuck Corbyn or Johnson vote too. We're not in that situation anymore.

Government bought a house on the HS2 route 24 hours before it was cancelled. I guess the only surprising thing is that they only bought one.

What's the betting the seller is a local Tory bigwig, and they'll sell it back to him next week for half the price.
