Technically, the route does go all the way. You just have to change at Birmingham. And waste time changing. And get a normal train. So it’s still HS2, only without the HS Compared to walking it's still high speed.

At what point do the Murdoch press turn fully? There's already discontent but I can't see them hitching themselves to this lot for much longer.

I’ve seen precisely one attempted citizen’s arrest and it ended up with the white knight being hit by a skateboard.

I saw an altercation between a lad in a waitrose uniform and some fella who I assume was shoplifting, must’ve chased him a few hundred metres down a residential street before realising he was about to get a good kicking from the much bigger man and then getting chased himself back to the high street. Absolutely fuck that, why would I risk my safety to protect some company’s profit? Rodger Saino isn’t going to thank me for saving a packet of salmon fillets from criminal hands

5 bonus Nectar or Clubcard points when you bring a shoplifter back to the customer service desk. Dead or alive.

Given the ubiquity of security cameras, it doesn't seem like the issue would be catching shoplifters. The police could do it, but it's obviously not considered a priority for resources.
Iirc, a lot of minor thefts tend to be committed by a small group of very frequent offenders, usually to support a drug habit. Which would imply that dedicating a few weeks police work to catching them would have a huge impact on the problem if it took the main perpetrators off the streets.
Either that or safe official injection sites so that addicts don't need to steal to fund their habits.

Just catching up on the speech yesterday, and it seems Suella spent a whole load of time slagging off people with cleaners, gardeners and second homes in the Dordogne.
Aren't those people pretty much their core voting base in the South?

On the whole policing issue, what bewilders me is that the police spend time effectively policing social media, which is an absolute waste of time and should be something that the social media platforms have to do themselves. I really don't understand why Twitter/X, Facebook, TikTok, Instagram etc. are not classified as publishers and broadcasters, as that is essentially exactly what they do. It should be down to them to moderate what is published or broadcast on their platforms, and if bad shit gets through then the platform should be made to carry the can for any legal ramifications.

The irritating thing about this obvious agitation for SUE4PM is that the party is now entirely comfortable with ousting the PM as a de facto general election. They dont need a GE because they are going to hold an internal one.
A new PM, a new mandate, a 'new' cabinet, clean slate, its the other guys fault...
Its absolutely infuriating. 5 PMs, 5 effectively new governments in 13 years and we voted for 1.5 of them.

Just a general moan, but any but anybody clinging to the "ToRy aNd LaBoUR aRe ThE sAmE" rhetoric can just fuck off and die to be honest, no time with that bullshit. Are Labour where I'd like? Not really. But if you can't spot the difference your a fucking twat. Yep, spot on
it tends to be the reddit greenandunpleasant bitter tankies or sometimes tory supporters that don't like to admit they are tories.
The UK needs election now to get rid of the tory scum before they do any more damage like scorched earth before they get kicked out
