With all this Truss/HS2 nonsense going on I'm starting to think a GE might even happen before this year is over.

I know everything feels historically bad now but surely this is one for the record books? Every speech seems to have contained several easily disprovable lies and wild conspiracy theories and the most popular speech of the even has been by Liz Truss, the person who wrecked our economy, on the economy. And now they are all agitating for yet another leadership contest.
They have actually lost their minds.

I've been poo pooing the idea of an early election for a while, as I just don't see why Tories would ever see a need for it if they have no chance of winning and their polling isn't getting worse no matter how batshit they are. Having said that, if there really is a chance that their budget gets voted down because of so many rebels, then they really may have no option but to go to the people.
Really though, that seems like a big long shot. To have 60 MPs to vote against their own party feels unlikely, particularly with the Tories who are very good at putting grievances behind them when it could put their glorious party at risk.

Yeah, I can't see that many voting against the budget/finance bill. It'll be a couple of votes against and a handful of abstentions. Still think May 24 is favourite.

25/1 for this year though. And 16/1 for a change in leadership this year.

After watching this, anyone sane left within the party should be pushing for an election for the good of the country. If all you have left are lies and wild conspiracy theories, you have nothing as demonstrated by them presenting literally nothing of any substance.

It’s weird when actual sensible policies would probably get them somewhere. I know it’s because they’re all useless and idiots but it wouldn’t be that hard.
Instead they’re just going with the infighting, racism and class wars. Aka, traditional Tory policies when they’re collapsing but now with added conspiracy theories.

Easily disproveable lies, conspiracy theory nonsense, and dog whistling is not the electoral suicide we've assumed it to be - Trump has shown that and the tories have realised it applies just as easily here. Sure it may repulse the majority of voters, but all they need is ~35% and a mild seat boundary advantage and they get 100% of the power, 100% of the time.
As for election timing it does feel closer but I still think they'll bottle the May slot and use the London mayoral elections to test how succesful batshittery is - Khan will still win, but I'll be extremely suprised if there's more than 5% in it. Timing is entirely in Sunak's hands, unless victim of men-in-grey-suits-regicide it all depends whether he wants to be PM for one more month, seven more months, or ~twelve more months. Despite the pocket money salary and the piddly small, hovel like, grace and favour mansions I suspect he quite likes being PM and, regicide excluded, nobody can stop him doing whatever he wants for the next ~fourteen months.

Trigger Warnings: literally everything about this.
He's back and Sunak did not rule out him rejoining the Tories when questioned.

The long game to turn the tories into UKIP is complete and, frankly, amazing. Its like a sentient disease from a movie.

I'm not overly confident. The average voter won't go over the finer details.
Stop the boats and No net zero gets headlines.
Starmer and Labours message seems to be, our policies are kind of similar but not as bad.

I'm not overly confident. The average voter won't go over the finer details. This is clearly what they are banking on. Lie loudly and often and hope at least some of it lands. Its incredible, really. An election strategy that relies entirely on blasting an overwhelming volume of bullshit out into the ether on the assumption the client media wont hold you to account.

I'm sure Professor Anand Menon, who grew up in Wakefield, must be positively thrilled to be next to the intellectual giant that is 30p Lee.

A general election is "not what the country wants", Prime Minister Rishi Sunak told Sky News a little earlier.

I knew he was appearing at at least one panel as he'd been tweeting about it, he was concerned he'd not get a train, if Lee Anderson was going to be next to him maybe he wished he hadn't!

Braverman, as no surprise just spouting xenophobic drivel. It’s horrible. Even some of the people attending look a bit taken aback and uncomfortable.

They are fucked in the head. The other week Braverman was consulting Gilette about kicking kids out based on beard growth. At this rate they will have phrenology in their manifesto.

Well, at least they are finally admitting science doesn't backup their beliefs... Scanning the Guardian live blog of Braverman's speech and she truly is completely unhinged. They really are desperate to try and paint themselves as the voice of the normal Brit (whilst assuming the normal Brit is a hate-filled tumour of bigotry).

She might be unhinged but the tories gave her a standing ovation which says enough about all of them.

I don’t get how they don’t see the irony of cheering on someone who’s parents migrated here from India who is saying we should get rid of immigrants.
