In spite of news UK and everything else, I do miss that late Thursday night programme Neil, Portillo and Abbott used to do.
It always used to signal the start of the weekend for me.

Dunno if this thread has been posted but it’s well worth a read.

Starmer's interview on Marr was a train crash. No wonder this country is fucked.

to quote a tweet from the above post or 2 Brexit in five stages: Things will be better. Things won’t be *that* bad. Things are bad but it’s not our fault. Things are awful but that was the plan. I have no idea what they’ll claim next. as per this tweet from tommy gammon

My sister, bless her, got on her soapboax the other day about how I'd they paid the drivers now it would be little old her who has to pay more ultimately. Tbh I zoned out as it somehow turned into an anti-benefit rant, as she somehow thinks that people *can't* be in poverty in the UK. Not sure when she became such a knob, politically. Years ago I suspect. On our work WhatsApp group we've had one person who thinks the shortages are all a conspiracy by the EU to punish us for Brexit and another one who thinks it's all just remainers exaggerating things and there aren't really any problems. I think I'm going to have to leave it before long for my own sanity.

A work WhatsApp? Is 40 hours a week with your colleagues not enough?

A work WhatsApp? Is 40 hours a week with your colleagues not enough? It got created during lockdown when we were all in 'bubbles' and not mixing at all. It has been used to communicate actual useful information occasionally but it's mostly just memes and moaning now.

Well Esso on Finchley Road near North Circ (North Landan represent) is an absolute shitshow. Not only does a queue weave its way onto the A406 from one end, but innovative queuers have commandeered a lane of ONCOMING traffic down Finchley Road to also enter the single entry point.

Every single petrol station I’ve driven past today has been shot saying they’re empty. The garden centre, usually full of old people for their Sunday lunch, it’s deserted.

Yeah all mine are now shut. The big Tesco station caused a massive traffic issue as traffic backed all the way through a roundabout and onto a three lane set of traffic lights.
Fucking maniacs.

Just can’t believe it’s still going on, does the fact that petrol stations are restocking a day later not ring a few bells in these people’s minds that there’s no actual shortage to worry about?

Its the people filling cans that amazes me. What do you think is happening?
You live in a city ffs not some remote island in the pacific.

I assume that the can fillers are trying to sell them for profit to mugs

Petrol in cans terrifies me, I’ve got a 5l one that I filled to top the motorbike up with and after a month the thing was expanded like a helium balloon. I drained the tank just to empty the can into it, never used it since

The thick of it strikes again: Imagine the human who says "that's perfect - publish it". Really quite an incredible video when you have a very long hard think about it. He comes across as such a great guy. I think I actually quite like him outside of the shackles of Westminster. Humble, warm, amiable and drop dead fucking gorgeous. Swooooooon

Seems like the nature of politics normally you don't need to get things right. Decisions are rooted in priorities and subjective opinion and because you never have the option to retake them, for the most part it facilitates a basic level of incompetence. Only the last ten years have thrown up issues that have more consequence to fu*king them up.

No idea why Angela Rayner is, but she apparently just got promoted to my new hero.
---
I used to know a young guy who was a long distance truck driver. He worked crazy hours and I don't know how he ever got any sleep... and then on his days off he'd always be helping people out if they were moving house or needed something fixed.
Not seen him in years, but I heard he went back to the Czech Republic in the end.

There must be people on here that have joined the petrol madness This is a safe space, come on and explain yourself - no judgement 😀 I fill up every Sunday, normally £20. Went out today 5 stations were empty one had petrol (no deisel), I filled up to the full £50. Does that make me half a wanker?

Given the shortage of drivers, it’s guess it’s going to take a while for all these stations to be able to reopen. Some will but it’ll be a mess for a couple of weeks now.

I think I've got a quarter of a tank in one car and am not out of isolation until Thursday. Won't need any petrol till the week after, hoping things may have calmed down by then. If push comes to shove, I can siphon some from the other car, which is sat waiting to be either MOT'd or SORN/sold.
