As Sky can't show it I recommend anyone with the means to acquire a copy of Last Week Tonight from last night, John Oliver is in fine form calling the Tories cunts for about 30 minutes and it's rather enjoyable.
edit: not exactly sure Empire's James Dyer should have posted this but it's quite possible he got a nod from LWT themselves as he deals with HBO a fair amount but here's the very end of the show.
It's US show, isn't it? Do they even have any idea who the Conservatives are? That said, Yay! and also I like the fact that cockwomble appears to have become a widely used word in recent years

Damn, that's my usual Tuesday night watch, will download it today. Had forgotten pre-election period rules would prevent Sky showing something like this.

To play at least partial Devil's Advocate, at the time governments all over the world were scrambling to get protective equipment, and no-one really knew how bad things might get or how long things might go on. Same thing was happening here.
At least in this case it seems like it was an actual reputable supplier, who delivered what they promised on time. Unlike a lot of the other ones which were just giving a bunch of money to MP's mates to set up their own new PPE company and sell unusable shit to the NHS at overinflated prices.

So if Spain took Gibraltar or the Argentinians invaded the Falklands, Reforms idea would be to sit round the table and have a bloody good chat about it rather than defending them?

There's a weird "get out of jail free" card that people who have peddle alternative/complimentary medicine and quackery can get away with. It's always carefully worded to *look* like it's claiming something, but on careful parsing doesn't. "Our new magic pants *are believed* to help penis growth." It's never clarified who believes it or on what basis.
I used to have quite a benign view on a lot of alternative medicine and the like, thinking they're not harming abody and yeah whatever you believe what you like. I've changed my mind on that a bit. There's some very harmful beliefs out there, such as vaccine rejection, and even for those that aren't actively harmful they're often weaponised as a part of a belief system that is used to shore up frankly cult like behaviour. Look at Alex Jones' line of "supplements." In isolation, yeah whatever, a fool and his money. In the context of what he's doing in frankly settling up a cult of personality around himself though? Different kettle of fish. It's a model a lot of modern day "Gurus" have adopted.
Absolutely, my friend was recently diagnosed with bowel cancer, he's always been on the fringes of alternative lifestyle and opinion but the last few years he embraced ayahuasca ceremonies, past lives, toad venom and a lot of mushrooms. He's made it clear that he's going to eschew chemo in favour of juice cleanses and various rituals, this all encouraged by a fucking "shaman" who has advised cancer is a result of past life trauma. This might sound unusual or an outlier but you'd be amazed how many people believe this shit. We've become so tolerant as a society that we shy away from engaging in debates against spirituality, alternative thinking or dogmatic religions and cultures. Where warped views on medicine, sexuality, politics, technology all mix, cultivate and get spread through a community and online.

I suppose its human nature. Chemo pretty much killed my mum so if I were that way inclined I could see myself grabbing hold of anything people were offering other than that if it came to it.
And as Ive said before, I would have liked to have seen a bit more in any manifesto to deal with it. Government still lags behind the internet and we should be holding Youtube, Facebook and all the rest responsible for the content posted on their sites at the very least.

Unlike a lot of the other ones which were just giving a bunch of money to MP's mates to set up their own new PPE company and sell unusable shit to the NHS at overinflated prices. But in 2014 The Tories had the foresight to do operation Signus, to test pandemic preparedness. This recommended that the PPE stockpile be renewed, something they didn't to. The scramble was avoidable. It also recommended establishing a pandemic response team, to coordinate government departments. Something they did do. Then Alexander Boris DePfeffel Johnson disbanded it 6 months before COVID hit.

This is what I would be going a lot harder on, although I suppose they don't need to. The conservatives can promise what they like but they just can't be trusted with the keys. 'Once in a generation' events seem to happen quite often and they repeatedly prove themselves to be utterly unfit to handle it.
'b...b...b...but covid'. Yeah, who prepared our covid response?
'b..b...b...but Ukraine'. Yeah, who ensured we remained reliant on Eastern European energy?
I moaned about this in the last place but I work in 'core national infrastructure'. We get audited regularly on a ton of things, resilience, preparedness, disaster recovery and so on, and are then whipped until the audit findings are remediated and/or implemented. We get held to a higher level of scrutiny than our own government. Idiots play acting at being grown ups, constantly being found out and then facing zero consequences. It's why they need to be wiped off the face of the earth.

Well, that's more foresight than our government had... Though I can well see why the Tories wouldn't trust anything the Tories might have suggested.

What's important to remember is that COVID and the war in Ukraine only affected the UK so other countries didn't have to make allowances for it like our heroic government.

You can say "well you don't have to agree with him" but saying shit like farage has said and others to defend him is utter lies and spreads Putin's propaganda (its bad enough when MAGA idiots say it).
Putin would of invaded Ukraine even without the paranoid fantasy NATO are surrounding "poor putin" Putin wants to reform the soviet union as his legacy, he is mobster thug and dictator. Simon Jenkins is typical well off cunt, an OK-jack sort of person, thinks he is clever writer but full of shit, may not be corbynista type but on the same page as the people that will happily let the people of Ukraine get killed. Appeasement didn't work in 2014-ish in Ukraine, other countries will be next when Russia recovers enough if people give on Ukraine.

I casually glanced over at GB News at some point and they were talking about Farage's comments to which the presenters were like "Could Farage be right?". For claiming to be the most patriotic channel they love promoting Putin's propaganda. Even if NATO didn't expand and capitulated to Putin, would people seriously think he wouldn't be doing this anyway? Negotiate of course, but you just can't stand still when a nuclear power is taking over sovereign countries at will. Once he's taken over every country right up to the NATO border he would still be going on about NATO expansion anyway.
Anyway it's a moot point considering Farage is on the Putin payroll anyway

One of the more pathetic things about the bootlicking Tory MPs falling over themselves to get presenter jobs on GB News was the failure to realise that its The Reform News Network and they would happily burn the tories at a moments notice.
