It is, currently, a less viable political platform in the UK.
Political views correlate with each other in the US a lot more than they do here. People who have certain views on, say, climate change are likely have the same views on immigration and on LGBT+ rights.
That correlates less well in the UK. You're more like to find someone who supports Greenpeace but thinks Stonewall is going to far here, for example.
I'm not sure if it's intentional, but I think things like GBNews, and people like Mogg and Liz on the talking cirtuit is to try to homogenise and reinforce these views and create a constituency for US style right wing candidates going forward.
It's not about seeking power. It's building a support base.

They all do look like twats. I'm a bit of a politics nerd, and I needed to read about what happened a couple of times before I understood why everybody was miffed at Hoyle, and I'm not sure I can explain it fully to someone else without missing some key detail or at least boring myself. Absolutely nobody is going to care about this, apart from the general air of incompetence and time wasting fighting. This is kind of what made me post the above. I was watching GMB as I shouted 'SHOES ON' for the 100th time and they had some poor sod under an umbrella in Parliament Square trying to explain what the fuss was about in terms a harassed parent could understand. Its almost incomprehensible to the layman that anything other than the people who are supposed to be running the country are acting like a pack of dickheads is happening.

It will if it carries on for long enough, the US hasn’t always been this batshit. It took time to veer into such ridiculousness.
Our institutions are what holds it at bay, the BBC, civil service etc. in enough time that can be undone.

Tho I think they're on completely the wrong track with small stateism. The UK *want* a big state. We'd ban or regulate everything given half a chance.

The thing we have got going for us is that we are largely missing the 'God Fearing' part and that is almost the baseline to any far right nonsense in the US. As much as American religious groups throw money at us, they are never going to get us back pews so its a losing battle to start with.
And, yeah, our problem is that we have always wanted a Northern European large state on American taxes. Well, now we have a Northern European tax burden so its about time we had something to show for it.

I wouldn't actually say we've ever been all that god fearing. Even our monarchs treated religion is a tool to shag or not.
America has to learn that it is its own brand of....beliefs. They don't really translate that well around the world and this may very well be a flailing attempt to stay relevant.

The biggest issue between American and European 'Christian ideals' is that American Christianity is more an evolution of Puritanism, whose followers originally migrated to the New World because everyone else here thought they were batshit.
Fast forward 250 years and nothings really changed.

One of the ironies of the different countries is there is no separation between church and state in the UK system, with the bloody Lords Spiritual sitting in one of the Houses, yet anyone trying to talk about religion for why they do things in politics tends to look a bit bonkers.
Alistair Campbell's "we don't do God" advice to Blair still stands.

Pollsters Savanta crunched the numbers to work out an aggregate of those favoured by the public for the top Tory job
1. Penny Mordaunt
2. James Cleverly
3. Rishi Sunak
4. Boris Johnson
5. Tom Tugendhat
6. Nigel Farage
7. Kemi Badenoch
8. Suella Braverman
Interesting 3 at the bottom
Also interesting that the bottom 5 don’t rank above a bloke who is leading the party towards electoral oblivion

This will be like the fourth outing all her PM4PM livery will have had. That’s decent value.

She’s another one who hasn’t done anything.
It’s difficult at the moment for anyone to emerge as none of them are actually doing or saying anything of worth.

Penny has played the long game. She’s a shoe in for next leader I keep mentioning this, but she's one of the Tories likely to lose their seat with polling where it is.
She'd be lucky to be MP, let alone PM.

If her fellow candidates realise that she's pro-recycling, she'll get labelled as a "woke leftist" and her stock in the party will plummet.

Au contraire, they will call her frugal. They will even say she is good with money. Ever seen a Mail story about Kate wearing a dress for the second time? Cost about £1500 but called frugal and savvy to wear a second time.

I'm almost proud to say that I haven't! I take your point, though - they'll spin anything whichever way they please, consistency be damned.

Yeah, I saw that shit so you don't have to. If Megan did the same she would be called tight or not believing in Britain or some shite. British dressmaker asks 'why won't she invest in Britain? Why does she hate us?' Something, anything.

I saw in my bing news feed that Suella was also claiming that islamists run this country now. The Tories really are just completely fucked in the head. Absolutely insane in the membrane. Also the still of that Twitter video make Truss' head look a bit like Turnip boy. "Turnip boy does conspiracy theories and ruins a country"
