I'm personally sick of CGI trailers, graphics are so good now I don't understand why we need them. Just show me the gameplay, or even an in-game cutscene, otherwise I have next to nothing to get excited about.

For me, they're a good way to board the hype train. And sometimes the finished game has CGI cutscenes as well, although I see that less and less, as the gap to gameplay graphics becomes smaller and they are probably very expensive to produce.
I could imagine they're a great way to convey the atmosphere and look and feel the creators are going for to the team at the very earliest stages of development, when there are no assets yet. Also makes for a more interesting announcement than a blog post with some concept art.

Pretty pointless. They rarely reflect what we will actually see and just leave you disappointed when you finally see the actual game. Just release gameplay trailers when they are ready.

That is nice. There are so many cool weapons in Bloodborne. So much of my time was spent just walking around transforming my weapon for the fun of it

Any trailer that isn't gameplay is meaningless. As true now as it was in the '90s.

I don't hate them, but also kinda don't see the point either.
Yeah I know that they're supposed to be all cinematic and get people hyped up in a way that gameplay trailers might not. But surely anyone watching them would know that it's not going to be the level of graphics that you'll see in the actual game. Is anyone getting fooled at this point?

I don't mind it interspersed with gameplay, totally pointless otherwise

I don't really mind as long as it's not one instead of the other. The BB one I posted shows the world in more detail than the game is able to so adds something overall. They're good for building excitement if you already have confidence in the game/dev. I'm quite easily pleased though

I know I was beyond excited about Star Wars: The Old Republic MMO purely because of the CGI trailers. They are probably still the best Star Wars scenes sinces The Duel of Fates.

No issues with them, they can be good marketing and serve a purpose to build a bit of hype. They provide world building and story beats/intros, and from a art and animation quality perspective I respect them.
It's not like they replace gameplay trailers, we get those closer to release and can always judge whether we want the game on that.

Until I know how a game plays, I have zero hype for it and CGI trailers are terrible at communicating this.

Reveal trailers should always be or have gameplay in them.

There were a couple of them at that Gamescom presentation where the tone didn’t match the game. Civvie11 pointed out one game at that Realms Deep introduction which had a super obnoxious trailer that would have completely put him off a game if he hadn’t already played it.
I think it might be a product of the pandemic as the people making the trailers are more separated from the actual product.

Gameplay or gtfo
I'm only convinced by trailers that give an accurate representation of what gameplay will be like, like Cyberpunk 2077 or No Man's Sky

That's how I feel about his Postal videos and his YT channel It seems kinda like LGR and the Sims, something he was doing earlier on and it does well for him so he carries on doing it.

I do not like CGI only trailers but I am fine with CGI + gameplay trailers. I like the spectacle of the CGI but the main thing I want from a trailer is to see the main gameplay mechanics.
I never preorder games though and always wait for reviews. So I purely watch trailers to put games on my radar in the first place. (And pretty much only as parts of Nintendo Directs / State of Plays).

I can't say I've been particularly enraged or offended by CGI trailers.
One does come to mind, Dead Island as presented in the infamous trailer seemed far more interesting than the actual game.

The Witcher 3 ones were good back in the day, the 'who are the real monsters' one in particular.
