The Hario one? Yeah, but then you have to wash the plastic filter, and the jar. Washing isn't my strong suit...
As for Aeropress, I just go with the default recipe of 2 scoops for one cup, but when I was doing regular filter coffee I was only using one scoop per cup. Haven't ever experimented with other amounts though.

That sounds like a huge amount of coffee. I use 10g to 200ml in my aeropress which gets good flavour without the jitteriness. I did have it at 15 but it didn’t taste any better and only a tiny bit stronger.
2 scoops seem an awful lot, isn’t that about 30g?

V60 here and I use 15g coffee to 330g water to fill a standard mug to top. I chuck the filter into bin then run the hario decanter under tap twice. Jobs a good un

For a v60 I use 3/50, so my first cup of the day is usually 18/300 and then 15/250 for the second.
And, yeah, I just dash the filter and rinse it. The fancy size 2 glass one and decanter set that gets pulled out for guest will get run through the dishwasher, though.

Eh? You just put a filter in the plastic cone and dump it in the recycyling afterwards. It's the easiest coffee thing I've ever had. I use about half the grounds I put in an Aeropress for one cup.
The Mizudashi, or the V60? (I was talking about the former; I can't speak for William_(ButNotBenjamin), though.)

It's why real gangsters use scales. A scoop of one coffee and be a couple of grams heavier/lighter than a scoop of another.

I have analyzed my scoops.
The starbucks one is marked as 10g. By the clever method of pouring coffee from one scoop to another I have deduced that the usual one I use is about 7g, and the fuckoff big one that came with the aeropress is about 16g. Archimedes would be proud.
I don't use the starbucks and aeropress ones, so 2 scoops of the little one per aeropress = 14g. Not too crazy I guess.
I used to only use one scoop back when I did regular filter coffee though.
I'm sure everyone was riveted by that.

Them markings on the scooooooop mean nothing, just a cheapo scale with a timer is essential really.

Them markings on the scooooooop mean nothing, just a cheapo scale with a timer is essential really. That sounds far too much like hard work! Given that we're at 15 degrees lower latitude, the increased circumference of the earth would mean that we're traveling faster, which would mean that the coffee would have increased mass relative to the same amount of coffee in the UK.

Pro tip: don't drop the drip tray for your espresso machine. The congealed black tar is exactly as much of a pain in the arse to clean as you would expect.

Whooops, I bet it made quite the mess.
I'm washing the barista pro drip tray weekly to prevent build up & since it's my most recent coffee-related toy and i love it.
(We'll see how long that lasts. The cleaning, not the loving it.)

Why would you time how much your coffee weighs? For perfect extraction. Once you do it you wont go back. Also helps if you're constantly using different beans to make sure you're getting it right at your chosen ratio. I like to put in 18.5-19g of fresh beans out and get 36-38g of espresso out.

I've just bought coffee online from the Odd Coffee Co and have to say so far I'm impressed (only tried their medium roast). They essentially rescue ground, beans and pods from other roasters (seems roasters always overproduce coffee to fulfil orders for retail partners and then throw away any extra after they quality check) and then sell them on to try and mitigate the huge wastage in the coffee industry. So if you want to feel good about your coffee purchasing habits then maybe give them a go I made an order this week so have a ÂŁ5 off link for anyone who is interested - i.refs.cc/hArxpb27

You won't go back. Even if you buy preground supermarket coffee it'll taste so much better and the V60 is quick and trivially easy to use.

Right; here we go then!
First use of the V60 just a few minutes ago, bean fans!
I just grabbed a Morrison’s medium roast bag during the week, and spent a couple of minutes reading on the Hario (?) website and watching a YouTube video by a gentleman called Hoffman.
I used 16g of grounds and a final water volume of 250ml, which tasted ace on its own, but left room in the mug for milk, should I have wanted any.
Soaked the filter, popped the grounds in, did the preload water. I don’t have a posh kettle and this bit seemed a little rushed; more practice needed! Swirled as best I could.
Slowly added the rest of the water in two phases and did a bit of stirring at one point.
Very impressed. I’ll continue to use my kitchen scales and a coaster, as this seemed to work really well.
I obviously have a lot to learn, but it was good!
First daft question: will I need to buy V60 filter papers or will any brand do? Are others flat and, if so, do they still work?
Bottoms up!

I use the hario filters but I have used others in the past. Just make sure they say they are for your size of v60.
A cheapo gooseneck metal jug is a very low cost improvement for your kit, it just makes the pour much easier.
