I saw those Ueshima bags on offer yesterday but my own snobbery questioned how it can be nice for 3 quid. I will give them a go in future. My goto supermarket wholebean bags are by Union Coffee. Not bad and some lighter blends.
Heh. Same here! I was kind of desperate, though, having come close to running out of beans altogether.
I haven't tried the Union stuff yet, but it's on my list to check out at some stage.

Anyone bought a decent scale recently? I remember the Timemore Black Mirror seemed to be frequently recommended, but pretty sure it's gone up a lot in price...
edit: ordered the BM from Sigma coffee, £49 seemed ok compared to the other prices out there (it's £54 but if you put it in your basket and get nearly all the way to checkout, then they send you an email with a £5 off code)

Accidentally bought two bags of beans yesterday, instead of ground.
I’m going to have to buy a hand grinder now, aren’t I?
Recommendations that will avoid me being executed by Mrs. M?

Go all in and get a burr grinder. It'll taste so good.

Don't know sorry. After my electric blade one crapped out I got a Sage electric burr. I do know I'd never go back to pre ground though, so if your wife likes coffee it'll be an easy sell.

Nah, she’s Mrs. PG Tips, apart from the odd coffee-with-Baileys option. Looking forward to grinding my own, but need to make a visibly good investment!

Wait, so she's Mrs. EMarkM and Mrs. PG Tips?
I concur with the 'hand grinder now, electric grinder later' advice. This Hario one is reputedly pretty decent:

The Hario slim is the first one I had and grinds pretty well. Definitely worth the money. Ended up using it with an electric screwdriver towards the end because hand grinding coffee is pretty annoying.

The wife has decided we need to start buying coffee beans and I don't think I can be arsed with a manual grinder. What is the best solution in terms of less hassle and easiest to clean? I'll need to get a machine to brew the stuff as well but don't want to spend hours looking at how to do it, recipes and going down the route of buying goose necked kettles and the like.

Years ago I ditched all my CD's, vinyl etc. and just have it all on a server as flac now with an amp and speakers in each room. I guess what I am asking for is the coffee equivalent of that.

Search 'bean to cup' on amazon and buy the most expensive thing you can afford.

True, but having taken a look it seems like I would be spending anywhere between £440 and £800 depending on my mood at the time, and that seems a lot for something that could be shit.

That is a lot. And honestly a V60 makes good coffee even if you don't piss about with scales and goose neck kettles and is only 20 quid. Might be worth a try.

I want to make espresso so I can make Fredo Cappuncino and the likes but I did read that you can get an additional module to do that.
Edit - hang on, that was the aeropress.

You can't do proper espresso with an Aeropress, add or no. If you want a bean to cup espresso, Sage Barrista Pro about 700 are decent.

We have the Barista Express and whilst it's a great little machine if your budget can stretch a bit further, I'd get a machine with a dual boiler that can allow you to do your espresso shot and milk at the same time.
We've had our machine 3 years now and as much as I love it, there is a part of me that wants it to pack up so we can get an all singing all dancing machine. Probably the Sage Dual Boiler and a Niche Zero

Reasonable steam nozzle action too, so cappucino/flatwhite/latte is fine. I can work the froth, but won't be doing any good latte art shit anytime soon.

I tried this yesterday afternoon:
'Twas delicious.
It's weird, but as I've become more of a coffee wanker, I've gradually drifted away from my long-standing preference for super-dark roasts; instead, I find myself enjoying medium roasts more and more.

Since this is the coffee wanker safe-space, I will agree about dark roasts. I find that all too often they are over-roasted and too oily/bitter. Or worse, a bit bland.
I used to prefer lighter roasts, but they seem to have gone too far and also gone down the flavourless route.
Medium seems to be a safer space.
So much is about the beans. If I can, I'll ask at the local coffee beans place in the city and always get good stuff, but sadly I'm not able to get there regularly enough, so have to take a punt on what our town's delis/grocery places have.
My perky blenders sub has got a bit better the last few months, so hope that continues until it ends, then Idk what I'll do.
