If anyone's still interested, this game has been delayed out of October 2022 into the 2022-23 fiscal year (i.e. sometime before the end of March next year).
That's just for the current-gen versions, mind - last-gen editions will come later, if they're not cancelled altogether.

Any reason for the delay? I mean I'm not actually bothered as I have no idea why they've used a card system and immediately put me off while also looking quite poor.

Oh I've just seen the article, methinks it's been pushed back to avoid getting absolutely slaughtered by MW2 and the like. Move it to around Jan or Feb well definitely before Resi 4 remake.

I resent this game. Superhero Xcom with cards was genuinely my game idea that I would idly consider making if I was ever stupid enough to try making my own game or suddenly became madly wealthy that I could hire other people to do it (my idea would probably be slightly more inspired by Mario + Rabbids, with focus on combos).
Still, that obviously means I'm interested in playing this. As someone that does like card games, the previews have made it sound interesting. I haven't been very fussed on the trailers though, that seem to be going down the dark route. I prefer my superheroes to be colourful and zany.

Weirdly, the card system is the only thing about this game that appeals to me! I'm not a fan of superhero stuff at all - Nolan's Batman movies being the exception to an otherwise hard rule - but put cards in anything and I'll give it a second glance, at the very least.
Then again, it seems as though the card element of this game is pretty unpopular across the board, so maybe they'll use the extra development time to ditch it (if that's even possible).

The card bit is the thing that puts me off. I'm sort of sick of it as a video game mechanic, video game designers go design your own fucking things and stop copying off of board games.

The non-battle part of gameplay looks pretty terrible, but still quite tempted by it.

The narrative part sounds shockingly bad. No idea who wrote it but I’m not sure why they are a writer. Watch the Skill Up review for details. Absolute garbage.
Deck building combat stuff sounds cool though.
Curious on console performance as PC isn’t great.

Everything about it screams high-end mobile game.
I'm interested for the card-based combat stuff but the other half of the game really sounds awful. Blade's book club and stargazing with Tony. Oi.

I bought the The X-COM 2 Collection on Xbox the other day because it's currently on sale for £7.99.
It's actually a decent version of the game. Fairly easy to control, it has 'Auto HDR' and looks great on the OLED, but unfortunately still runs at 30fps.
The main reason I like X-COM 2 specifically is the deep character customisation. You can really make each squad member your own, something missing in other X-COM games, Phoenix Point, and I assume Midnight Sons.

I think the rebooted Xcom is a good start, I'm not sure if they re-released it on console. It explains the play style very well and it introduces you to all the mechanics gradually.
