New Saints Row announced as...Saints Row. Appears to be a soft reboot from their wording, all the gubbins like co-op and whatnot and is cross gen too. Coming out. 25/2/22 youtu.be/YgjzDJA1o1EHere's the trailer which is obviously not gameplay as usual.

The new characters annoy me, I'm hoping the game is good enough for me to get past that.

I quite like the Western theme. I hope that's a big part of the game.

At the end of the trailer the music gets very Western, and obviously the car ornament was wearing a cowboy hat. It seems to me as if that is something that will play into the setting.
Obviously i'm not expecting cowboys and indians, but just from the trailer i am going to be expecting a sort of neo-western story.
Even the logo has that sort of feel.

Seriously?
I can't be the only one who thought that. The very final shot has that same car ornament as a sort of massive statue, i'm sure it's a sign.

Presumably it'll be a GTA V style mix of city and surrounding desert rather than just one big city like the previous games.
I can see what Rodizzle is getting at, anyway.

The trailer opens up on a literal desert littered with cacti. There is a neon sign with two revolvers. The food truck has a head wearing a cowboy hat on the top. The first named character is called Eli. He mentions his famous chilli con carne. The keychain has a man wearing a cowboy hat. The passenger in the saints car pretends his hand is a revolver and blows the smoke from the barrel. They knock a giant neon cowboy hat man off the roof of a building. There is a casino called El Dorado.
All the while, Mexican music is playing until the rap comes in... and then at the very end you get stereotypical Western whistles. And the new logo has Western vibes.

The blurb says it's the biggest ever play area they've ever ever had so my assumption is something like San Andreas.

It sucks that i need to wait until 2022 to be proven right about this.

Assuming this releases on that date (I doubt it will), that's one week after Horizon: Forbidden West. Two massive open world games a week apart.

Luckily it's just before the releases start to slow down a bit (well end of march normally) so there will be time to play them. Isn't god of war due march as well though?

There's not exactly a huge amount of GTA style games out any time soon, though. Everybody else had a pop with the likes of True Crime, Sleeping Dogs, Watch Dogs etc, but apart from the latter, SR is the only series I can think of that seemed to get any kind of traction. Kind of feels like an obvious paint by numbers and make shitloads of money formula, but nobody else has nailed it as well as the SR series. /edit Vaguely in response to KinkyMong

It seems like a concerted effort to me. A good CGI reveal trailer does this. Hints at the themes of the game through visuals and sounds without really giving a whole lot away.

True Crime. Now that was pos game series. I had some fun with True Crime back in the day. Plus it sort of led to the creation of the excellent Sleeping Dogs, which was originally intended to be a True Crime game if memory serves me correctly. Shame that game never got a sequel. Anyway, this new Saints Row looks a bit shit so far based on that trailer, like it has been inspired more by Fortnite and not the series of games it is based on.

I'm seeing this as pretty much an unofficial sequel to Red Dead Redemption.

I think it looks cracking in that 40 seconds of gameplay we saw. It has co-op and you can make your own man. Can't wait!
It better have a cockney voice though.

It is set in Southwestern US so I'd expect a mix of Mexico and Californian influences, but I don't know if that makes it a neo-western so much.

I got the vibe that it felt more SR3 than 4 which I’m very into if correct.
I can see a Vegas type scenario maybe starting in desert small town and graduating to the nearby big city as the gang grows more successful.

Loved the original quadrilogy but very glad they're going back to a more 'grounded' game than 4. That was great fun but hoping for more like Saints Row 2, basically the best GTA style game released.

Short gameplay makes the game look better than the pointless cgi trailer.
