I'm just going to pipe it into my mouth and spit it into place.

My dishwasher has been crazy loud recently so decided to take a closer look. I didn’t realise there were two sets of filters under the food trap that you were supposed to clean as well…
With the mini fatberg cleared it sounds much happier.

They don’t make these things very clear when you buy the fuckers do they?
Top tip - put a tub of water with vinegar in the machine empty and run the full cycle at highest temp. Cleans it right up

I just had the "Tap" icon on our dishwasher go. Followed YouTube video on checking the inlet, outlet and pump.
None of them seemed to indicate anything that would blocking flow, although there was indeed also a fair amount of fat on the filters.
I even had to use a torx screwdriver to open up the pump cover. Well proud of myself.

I'm a big fan of slightly dull middle aged YouTube men explaining how to service dishwashers & washing machines

I saved having to buy a new dishwasher because of those videos. Some unexplained E9 code came up and a bit of googling said it was probably some part or other. YouTube showed how to get the old one out, things to watch out for and how to get the new one in. Cost me £8 for the new part and about 20 minutes to replace. It's been fine ever since.

Brake pads don't pass my "What's the worst that can happen if I screw it up?" test.

Yeah, there's stuff to bleed and refill and... Stuff.
I'm happy changing my wipers, lights and oil, but my local garage labour prices are low enough that I'm not going there with brakes. Too many memories of cold mornings with my hand slipping on the wrench and bashing my knuckles on the engine.

The only thing I'd be able to fix is when the red light appears on the petrol gauge.

Brake pads are one of those things that are relatively easy if you know what you're doing, but can be a bit tricky (positioning the piston in the caliper etc) and if you mess it up... Well, at best you can't use the car.

I’ve done brake pads, it’s a faff that you’re better off paying someone a few quid to save hours of your life. One of those jobs where if your start it you have to finish no matter how awful it turns out to be

Please dont. There's all sorts you can get wrong, and all sorts that can go wrong. I'm a long long way from having any skin in the game these days, but in general anything involving the wheels is best left to someone you can sue if it goes wrong.

Danno, did you really use the phrase "skin in the game"?
I hope you feel a proper sense of self mortification now that I've highlighted this to you.

Coincidentally I had my MOT and service yesterday and was thinking of this thread. My brother does the service for me as he is a mechanic and yesterday was changing the brake pads. Never been touched on this car but he was struggling to get the part off and when it came out there was a bulge on the end of the thread that had then stripped the thread on the hub. If I had been doing it it wouldn’t have come off and if it had, I was fucked. He had to re thread the housing, find a new bolt and all other means to get it fixed or I wasn’t going home. So yeah, make sure you have the stones to finish the job before you take things on. Or get a man in.

Am I going in the "DEATH TO PHRASE SPEAKERS!" thread again For context, I was a mechanic in a past life* so I felt like I could get away with saying it *o god NOT AGAIN

I put up a wall bracket yesterday and attached a 20kg telly, and it hasn't fallen down yet. The absolute limit of my DIY envelope.

Having in past month had to replace the fridge freezer and the washing machine, I guess it was time for the dish washer.

Replaced bathroom extractor fan, didn't electrocute myself. Even upgraded it to one that comes on automatically when humidity goes above 60%.

You know that lazy plastering technique where you just run a paint roller over it to create a textured effect on the wall. Never bloody do it, it's awful. The last owners had done this and my god what a mess. It has drawn blood from everyone of us, a nightmare to plaster over and even worse to sand off plus you can't clean your walls.
On that note anyone have a tip for cleaning walls so sharp they'll shred a sponge?

Urgh, artexed walls. The worst (well, and ceilings). I think sanding is the only (messy) option.
