Lawnmowers and drills etc that are plastic are double insulated so don't have an earth wire. Technically it doesn't matter which way around the 2 wires go. I've not come across grey and blue in any appliance .

Nor me, but as cubby says, as long as they line up correctly, it shouldn't matter. I did the same in one of my rented houses many years ago. Managed to connect and not blow myself up, so if I can do it, anyone can!

Confirmed all working and the ibenam household lives to fight another day!
Like everyone said it didn't matter which way round the wires went into the connector as long as both sides matched.

Really looking forward to getting the personnel door fitted in the garage/workshop next week, will mean we no longer have to access the garage via the street so we can come and go without worrying about people seeing which is a PITA as I'm the only one in our family with the strength to lift the roller shutter, which I will lock up from the inside afterwards. Just hope the builder isn't shit.

I sliced a floor board with my fancy slicerer today and cut some tiles with a cutterer and mixed tile cement with a mixerer. Feeling it a bit now, been a while since doing that.

Powered up the mitre saw today for the first time, the proverbial like a knife through butter, chuffed, even if it was to fix the bed the eldest had somehow managed to break. 🙄

Fantastic tools if you can get past the terror of what may happen in the event of catastrophic failure.

Table saws never fail to be exciting to use. No matter how many thousand cuts you may have made, each one has the potential to change your life in a millisecond

I have a mitre saw that takes up far too much space for how often it gets used. Stupid purchase.

Had been planning to put up some shelves in our living room above the tv unit but didn’t manage over the bank holiday because my wife was ill so I did all the childcare.
Father-in-law decided he’d come over today while we were all out to do it himself as a surprise. He didn’t move the tv or games consoles from beneath before drilling into the brickwork. They’re absolutely crusted in brick and wood dust now.
Fucks sake.

I mean what is it with simple shit like that, presumably as he's stuck your shelves up you can only sing his praise but fuck me that would royaly piss me off too, I mean I have pretty much fuck all positive to say about my now deceased F.I.L. but he was quite a tidy tradesmen and I did use his router for the first time in 10 years the other day.

Just hope the builder isn't shit. So not altogether brilliant so far, they stitch drilled the holes for the opening initially from the inside, so blew off big chunks of render and IMO made more of a mess than necessary and the door doesn't actually seem to open! See what happens tomorrow ....

Obviously I’m glad the shelves are up without me having to do any work but now my controllers feel like chalk and I’ve had to spend the evening cleaning out the vents and fans instead of playing anything.
Just hoy a blanket or something over them, you don’t need to worry about what all the wires do or whatever

Finally got our garage door fitted and all seems OK, although kicking myself for not doing the silicone seal myself, I can't abide a messy seal around windows/doors/baths etc.

Anyone ever managed to remove a sheared screw?
It's for a magnet on a bifold door, so I really don't want to fuck up the door - just need to find a way to pull the screw out so I can replace it with a meatier one. I've found these extractor drill bits but having seen a few videos they look best for when the head is mangled but still present...
Don't really fancy trying to drill down the middle of a screw but it's looking as if that's my only option.

I've got a similar problem, so be keen to hear any advice on this.

You need a tappit. It's like a reverse drill bit that retrives things that went wrong. It's mostly successful in metal (i.e. a motor scenario) but can work in a domestic situation.
Bear with me.

I've never had much luck with the screw extractors tbh, but then I am notoriously shit at things like that.

Yeah I've had 50/50 luck with extractors. Unfortunately the best fix is to buy better screws in the first place, which ain't always possible when you're building something from a pack and they use cheap screws, or you're dealing with shit that's already there.

Dishwasher was playing up, troubleshooting suggested the infill pipe might be blocked. Stupid thing that keeps it level was stuck on a half fitted tile but eventually got it out and had a look. Couldn't see anything, went to put it back only to first gash my hand on the edges and then discovered the plastic twizzle bit that levels it out has broken. So it's now balanced on a bit of wood for the foreseeable. And no idea if the problem is fixed or not. Bastard things.

Sigh.. I really wish people would put some thought into DIY. I've noticed a drip from our extension guttering and noticed that the clip on the guttering has snapped off, where someone had installed the pergola and wedged it into the guttering so the clip has snapped, which perhaps was down to the strong winds we had..

Hive mind - I got a couple of quotes for some insulation which was a bulk of all the rooms measured. Asked each company for a break down of the rooms, so I could decide if I just wanted to do certain rooms.
One company - no problem. Sent over breakdown of different configurations.
Second company - they have said they'd have to charge for that and add VAT.
Is that a load of bollocks? I also had to chase them for a quote and it was only after I put in a complaint that one appeared.

I'd sack them off and see if someone else can quote. Sounds like a pisstake.
