The existing white pendant and bulb holder is a bit grotty so I want to replace it.
It looks like a relatively straight forward wiring job...

Should be. Just turn the juice off at the box. Take a photo of how it’s wired before you dismantle.

So you don’t mean a fabric cord? You mean a pendant light fitting?
Yes easy enough. As last reply before the penny dropped!

What nexus said, turn the whole lot off if you have any doubts, don't have kids who need the internet nearby, the combination of kids and electrical jobs sends my blood pressure into the stratosphere! A fuck ton of handy videos on YouTube if you need it.

Just use scissors to cut the cord. Then tie the new cord to the bit left on the pull switch. That's how it's always been done.

Cheers, I'll maybe give that a go, if I can be arsed. Pics please How has it gone? How did you go about getting the work done - is it one contractor? I am not really sure where to start. photos.app.goo.gl/5AtpisGy2qmVtyA27Not sure if this will work.

Seems ok One contractor for all the internal works. Heating done separately. It's great having lovely new plaster walls, first time in my life.

Nice one Goban. There is something beautiful about almost-dry plaster. I could sit and watch it for hours

A couple of years ago I resealed the bathtub. It was sealed with a sealant strip which was coming away so I used silicone instead. Thought I'd done a good job but it had left a gap/crack in a corner. Hasn't been an issue till now but ever so often water leaks into the kitchen luckily between the outside wall and boiler onto the kitchen work top.
Appears it's leaking from a hole left from old pipes when the previous owner had a water tank before getting a combi boiler.
The wall and ceiling above the boiler is bone dry so it's really odd, just drops down from somewhere above the boiler overflow pipe. A bath is no issue just when one of us has a shower.
As a temporary solution I've applied black tape over the problem area and it's not leaked. I just know I'll have to sort it soon.

Just the actual cord bit? The pull string? I need to replace that bit. You have to pull the cord three times to switch the lights on in the main bathroom. Only once to switch off though.

Update, heating and insulation done, what a transformation, my house is a completely different place...so warm, even with it being -1 outside. Well chuffed.

My garage personnel door was delivered today, it'll be grand to be able to access my garage through a side door instead of the insecure roller shutter visible for all to see off the road which I can then lock shut, just hope the builder doesn't screw up the installation.

Weirdly, I’ve just edited a piece on garage roller shutter doors.
This was preceded by interviews with Sarah Ferguson, Kerry Katona and Charlotte Church, so make of that what you will!

I re-felted part of my shed roof today which had torn in a storm and used concrete to anchor in the kids climbing frame (which I assembled last year). Never done either before and both seem to have gone ‘ok.’
Feeling pretty fucking heroic.
I’ve learnt part of the key to getting stuff done with two kids under 5 is to drop my standards a bit. Getting everything perfectly square takes 3x as long and I used to do that. I now realise you never notice these little things 5 minutes after you finish the job and it’s better I get more done than one thing perfectly. Been quite freeing. Of course actually important stuff like painting etc I leave to the experts.

I need to replace the battens on my summerhouse/shed roof, which have rotten through so water is getting in. One corner may need refelting as it's ripped a bit. It's finding the time to order the bits as much as doing the job.
