Going to sound massively cynical but aren't most Twitter reviews overwhelmingly positive for sneak previews?

People who saw it were saying on Twitter that it's a good as Ghostbusters fans want it to be. Call me cynical but I find that incredibly hard to believe.

I know that's not always been the case as there were a lot that came from Rise of Skywalker and said that it wasn't for everyone and they didn't like it. Headlines usually say it has a mixed response.
I think one telling sign is that the film isn't due for release till 12th November. When they screen something this early then its a good sign.
edit: Rise of Skywalker was a world premiere I think and not an advanced screening.

Yeah, I don't think they let actual reviewers into preview screenings anymore. if they do, their reviews are embargoed until after release. So the point of these things is to generate hype, not to reflect anything real. (which isn't to say that it will be bad, just that "advance buzz is positive" means very little)

That and people don't usually go on Twitter and say "eh, it was ok". Social media posts are predisposed to gushing or white-hot hatred; there's not much in between.

Twitter reviews after premiers are always sickeningly positive and insincere. It's an opportunity for the wannabe influencers to grab a little bit of attention.
That's not to say the film won't be good, but I'll reserve judgement.

Yeah, it has always come across as mutual backscratching, we'll let you take part in xyz and you write something positive to get more likes/retweets and a follow. What am I talking about, it's EXACTLY that.

I feel like they would screen it early because they need to create buzz ahead of the release largely because the last film was a massive trainwreck of a film and destroyed all their cinematic universe plans.

I wouldn't trust the feedback from these advance previews, they're most likely full of 'influencers' who'll say whatever the studio wants them to say as long as they get some exposure in return. It's all just part of today's corporate marketing hype machine.
On the subject of the film itself, I'm still uncertain about it. It very much looks like the studio has gone down the route of "the kids love Stranger Things, so let's reboot Ghostbusters with young, nerdy teens" route, with a bunch of fan-service nods to keep the oldies happy. I wouldn't be at all surprised if the original cast don't turn up until the finale, where they heroically sacrifice themselves to save the town/world and leave the coast clear for the series to move forward with the new kids (and Bill Murray finally gets his wish of never being asked to do another Ghostbusters film, hah).
I want it to be at least half decent, but I have serious doubts right now. Hope I'm wrong!

I've seen the trailer and I think it looks great. It's what the 2016 film should have been all along.
And if it's got a Stranger Things vibe, that works for me.

I was a kid when I saw Ghostbusters so I'm fine with them making a new one for kids to be honest. Ghostbusters will never be our Ghostbusters without the original cast anyway and they're all old AF now. Feel the same way about Star Wars

@gary Spinkick what is your avatar from? The Batman TV show, I think. Egg... head? Something weird.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not precious about them moving the series forward for a new audience - I love the first film, but nothing that came after made that film any less enjoyable - but going off of the trailers so far it looks like they're going in hard to try pleasing everyone (again). A clean reboot would be better I think, but the studios always end up terrified of upsetting the 'original fans', instead of building up a new target audience of youngsters. As I said, I do hope it's good. I didn't hate the last reboot (even if I thought the last act wasn't very good) and Ghostbusters II is an average, if enjoyable film at best, so it's not like it needs to do much to keep me entertained, haha.
As for Star Wars, I'd say that the stuff detached from all the Skywalker related shit has generally been the better output over the past few years. If they're making more, then I'd rather have more of that, definitely.

I think it's basically going to be The Force Awakens. Inoffensive, hits the familiar notes, bit of nostalgia for the long-term fans, but not really doing anything new.
Which isn't necessarily a problem! I just don't think they're going to reinvent the wheel considering the reception the last film got.

I mean yeah, it'll be a Ghostbusters film that follow the structure of a modern blockbuster film. I'm not expecting any WINSTON WAS MARSHMALLOW MAN ALL ALONG kind of stuff.

Maybe they'll have to catch an evil CG Egon ghost just to get the whole cast back in, hah

As long as it's not got that fat Melissa animal in it and the rest of that pointless cast then it might be ok.

Everything looks like an ep of stranger things. Shows/Movies either totally rip off the aesthetic or one of the cast is in it.
