In the grand scheme no, but the optics of selling a supposedly elite version of their controller at an exorbitant price for their fairly new console, a console which has already received a fair increase in price is terrible. When it's also revealed that said elite controller doesn't even have the same battery life as the bog standard and is in fact worse, you don't even have to get into the metrics, at the end of the day it's worse and when you're paying the money they're asking you obviously expect better as standard as a bare minimum.

Bloody hell. The battery life was absolute dogshit to begin with, so yeah, I hoped for a slight upgrade at least for their premium controller.
Given that these things are only meant to be charged a finite number of times before degradation kicks in, daily charges are probably something to be concerned about. My Elite gen 1 has lasted me 6 years and I'd hope to get a similar lifespan out of this, but would probably need to have it permanently plugged in to a power source after a couple of years.

I think if you asked someone paying £200 for a fucking joypad what their top ten reasons for paying £200 for a fucking joypad are, I'd be astonished if "longer battery life, innit" made the list. Dumb fucks will just buy two and rotate them anyway.

Obviously it's a luxury product and no one's forcing you to buy it but it points to unfavorable trend with Sony of late of "They'll buy it anyway" and tbf they're right.

It isn't a great look, but in practice I don't really see it as much of an issue. The DualSense supposedly has a life of about 12 hours, which I would say is about right.
Even if this drops to 10 for the Edge, you shouldn't run into issues. Even if that degrades over time because you are sticking it on charge when not in use or every other time, it would have to substantially degrade by 50%+ to actually be a problem.
A pain maybe to have to remember to charge all the time, but I would still take that over having to faff with disposable batteries or rechargeable ones.

People find the most insignificant shit to get worked up about.

Jambowayoh The battery is one of the heaviest parts of the unit - I think I'd take a slightly shorter play time rather than having to hold something the weight of two bricks in my hand. In this case it might actually be a victory for common sense - making the battery larger just so all the numbers go up may well have resulted in a poorer unit. Not that I'm gonna pay £200 for a fucking joypad, mind you. Even at £130 or whatever for the MS pad (which is still my preferred pad, despite the PS5 haptics and stuff) I could never bring myself to actually get close to pulling the trigger. As it were. And yeah - anyone already comfortable with £200 for a fucking joypad will not likely be dissuaded by the battery life.

Devils advocate - the battery in Dual Sense isn’t that bad, it’s just that Sony decided to flash up the “BATTERY CRITICAL CHARGE RIGHT NOW URGENT URGENT” message when you still have over a third left.

I wouldn't mind a bit of extra heft in my hand in fairness. Elite controller gen 2 is absolutely perfect. Feels like it'd break the TV if you threw it, not bounce straight off it like the DS5.

Yeah the battery life on my two controllers seems to be substantially worse than it was. I’m wondering if maybe an update has them wasting power on extra vibes or something.

Didn't they update it to alert on low battery when it's actually low rather than at 50% of something silly like that. I've got haptics/glow turned down low on mine and still didn't get through a decent GoW:R session without the warning popping up a while before I was ready to finish.

Quite a few alternatives to the ps5 pro controller popping up now though, I would look towards one of them maybe as they might have a shape that doesn't hurt my hands after a short play session like the ps5 one does. Hopefully something with hall effect sticks so it eliminates stick drift.

Just saw Judgement is on the PS Plus thing, is it any good? Not the biggest fan of the Yakuza games but quite enjoyed them to a point. Is it just more of the same?

It's a bit more focused than the Yakuza games but it's very much more of the same.

January's PS Plus games are Jedi: Fallen Order, Axiom Verge 2, and Fallout 76.

I'm just amazed Fallout '76 isn't F2P already. Might finally be time to give it another chance.

FO76 is stuck in 30fps for those PS5 owners who can't stand that frame rate anymore such as myself.

Well after having it wantonly installed for a few days I've already maxed out the SSD.
Any good ones in the sales that you've seen?

Also, Ratchet & Clank is probably the best looking game I've ever played. Visually stunning in both art direction and execution. The rift gimmick gets me every time and there is surely no greater joy in gaming than jump hammering a big pile of crates.
Must have played about 8 hours straight today and enjoyed every moment.

Every day is a school day, I didn't not know that.
They have now moved from being one of my least favourite vegetables to my 2nd least favourite fruit.

Tomatoes, peppers, most type of beans, cucumbers, pumpkins, everything in the squash family like courgettes etc. All fruit. Vegetables are a myth basically.

Oh, apparently the banana plant is a herb and the actual bananas are berries.
