Ubisoft are gonna release a beta that will end up being the vast majority of the game and be somehow supported until its an ok game in a few years, or not?
Closed Beta opens August 23-25th, it's preloaded for myself.

Meant to post this earlier today. It's pretty laughable that they make you sign an NDA then the next step is "TELL ALL OF YOUR FRIENDS ABOUT IT, HERE'S FIVE MORE CODES!!!"
Enjoyed Steep so looking forward to getting stuck in tomorrow, and if anybody needs a code for a game that I'm not allowed to talk about, let me know.

Games like this live and die on their control schemes. The mountain biking looks bloody good though so hopefully they nail it.
Looks a big upgrade on steep though which I really didn't like.

Only very briefly looked, it’s very Steep, good pick up and play game. But I do want to put each and every person that speaks into a mincer and slowly kill them a millimetre at a time.
Forza Horizon 4 pulled the Red Bull dialogue off much more successfully- a bit of knowing irony, characters that laid it on thick were the butt of the joke rather than, like legit gnarrrrlaaaaayyy brooooooaaahhhhssskiess. It might be the thing that stops me buying.

Played a fair bit more, it has won me over a bit. It’s dumb, but definitely fun.

I like the concept of it, and the multiplayer/single player hybrid seems to work well. The presentation is really obnoxious though (it screams "old people pretending to be down with the kids") and the physics don't feel particularly fun. It reminds me of playing the off road events in Forza Horizon with no controller vibration, even though the physics are the same, the lack of vibration makes them feel really crap and you don't know what the tyres are doing.
Hopefully the full game will have better controller feedback and hopefully that'll fix everything.

Quite liking it so far. Only downside I have (and I assume it's a placeholder) is how Stephen Hawkin narrates literally everything as you go through the menus. It's weird.
And +1 for the trying too hard to sound totally bodacious and gnarly dudes.

You can turn that off, it's the menu narration setting.
They may have managed to create a decent ssx style game here, it's so much better than steep.

It is better than Steep, I think, yeah. Knowing a decent bit about downhill mountain biking they haven’t quite nailed it- you should be able to shift your weight forwards/backwards at all times to get up, over and down stuff, yet you can’t. It’s a huge oversight if you want something convincing. Assume that applies to the other stuff too.
Yeah, any and all dialogue can get in a fucking ditch, awful.

Think they are going more for the ssx approach rather than a SIM though. If you had to worry about shifting your weight and the likes I would bounce off of it.

You should just need to redeem it for whatever system you use here. www.ubisoft.com/en-gb/game/riders-republic/betaIt's pretty entertaining and I'll probably either get it early next year when it's inevitably half price or less, or will just sign up to uplay+ or whatever it's called for a month. 64 player races are excellent fun and definitely what's convinced me to get it, although apparently they'll only start once an hour in the final game. Best I've managed so far is fifth place overall. |

Can't even select my Series X as a download option on Ubisofts site and its not showing up on the One X either. I guess I'll just have to wait until it eventually comes out.
