They seem to have hidden the pause option recently. Could've sworn it was easily accessible from the choice page, but you really need to dig into your account settings to find it now. Then there's the inevitable 20 "are you reeeeeealy sure you want to pause?" questions you have to click through.
I just set a calendar reminder for the evening of the first Tuesday of the month. Check out the offerings and if they're rubbish, pause for another month.
It's well worth subbing imo. Had a couple of good months recently (although I haven't actually played any of the games yet of course...)

Yeh I think if you can be arsed to check each month the yearly sub is good value, especially if you get it on offer. I got the November deal and each month works out at something like £6.50 if I choose to go for it.

The regular bundles have become much less of a bargain, so I guess maybe that makes the subscription one a bit more attractive, relatively.

^ Be aware that Crusader Kings 2 is one of those games that will try to get you to buy about 1000 dlcs. And also bloody hard at first.
Guacamelee and Guacamelee 2 are free on epic. I've heard good things about them but not tried them. I just realized they have local co-op, so that may change.

Also, if you bounce of CK2, don't let that dissuade you from 3 at some point. It is a much better game at onboarding the player. Still not perfect, but I could never get to grips after attempting 2 a few times, but got straight into the most recent one.
Great game once it gets its claws into you.

Both Guacamelees are excellent. I hope you all try them at some point.

Hunter: Call of the Wild is free right now along with some other bollocks on Epic.
Highly recommend it, I've put some hours into shooting lions and rabbits in the face.

The environments are very nicely looking and with a good amount of simulation as well.
Also, absolutely no shooting of anything required. It can be treated as an open-world-walking simulator so to speak.

It's interesting that all the screenshots are of lovely looking animals in lovely looking countryside. Very much alive and not shot in the face.
Even if it has a non-shooting mode, or even a photography mode which would be quite cool, I'm not sure I'd ever shake the feeling that what the game really wants me to be doing is blowing the animals away and sticking their heads on my wall.

See, I'm largely against hunting in real life* but I've no issue with shooting digital animals at all. Kill enough humans, why not kill a deer or two.
(*I'm actually fine with hunting when there's a reason. Like for population control because we've fucked up the ecosystem by killing the predators and it's better to control the population than have numbers swinging between over population and starving. And I'm fine with hunting for game meat, it's arguable that it's more humane than intensively reared livestock. Hunting purely for sport is pointless though. And stuff like fox hunting can get to shit as it's barbaric.)

I don’t even like shooting Nazi attack German Shepherds in WWII games. Isn’t there a cuddle button? So I don’t think I’ll be redeeming the hunting game here. Which is fine. Not every free Epic game will be for me. In fact, most aren’t.

I think Yakuza 5 was the most I played an actual 'hunting game'... Possibly D2 had some aspects too. Never felt the urge for an actual hunter sim though.

A virtual version of that doesn't do any harm, but it doesn't appeal to me. True, I have slaughtered thousands of enemies, humanoid and creatures, in games over the years. But those tend to be enemies that are attacking you or doing evil, rather than just random people who are out enjoying their day. Except the poor pedestrians in GTA... I'm a monster.

I don't even walk on ants irl, but I'm fine with blowing their brains out in a videogame. It's just a game, it's not meant to raise ethical conundrums.
But if anyone wants to go down that road and this game and their like keeps one potential hunter from killing real animals because they got the fix they needed from playing a game, then I believe it deserves some support.

But then who is going to keep these rabbits under control? They get more ferocious every year.

Grime - some kind of roguelite with rather unique aesthetics - is going to be free on Epic starting 06th July.

^ Looks pretty (in a weird way). Weird that they copied the Dead Cells 'character's head is a circle' thing though. Is it just because no-one can be bothered to draw faces?
This week's freebie is The Dungeon Of Naheulbeuk: The Amulet Of Chaos which seems to be a parody RPG. I can't tell if advertising your parody of RPGs with a sexy underdressed elf is a parody, or having your cake and eating it.

I actually have this on my wishlist because I read [someone on some forum somewhere] saying [it was one of the better-realised examples] of [some genre I can't remember right now]. It is a pity about the busty elf on the cover for sure, but one off the wishlist at least

Yeah, was mystified about the over-sexualized elf as well since the rest of the game didn't seem to be on the same titillating level. But reading more about the background of the game's development, I realized the creator was French so mystery solved.

Pretty sure that's not it . Seems to affect about every second Fantasy-game. Though perhaps it has become less common in recent years?
