Yeah I'm looking forward to getting my monitor wall mounted. No point just yet though as we/I am the process of getting a shed built in the garden which I'll be turning into an outdoor office. When that's built I'll get my screen mounted to the wall in there to give me desk space abs also for a bit of peace of mind due to it not being as easy to steal should anyone break into it!

Just bought a custom build off eBay for £515. I don't know a massive amount about the latest parts etc, I was toying with building one, but couldn't be bothered with the grief especially in this climate. So spotted this and had to take it there and then. It's a trusted PC builder on there, loads of good reviews - 1 year full warranty on all parts. I'll be happy if it runs indies and CRPGs decently. Got an XboxsX for latest AAAs etc. It's a total budget build, which is what I'd have aimed for anyway. If I try and buy all the bits separate it seems to be more costly than what I've paid.

GPU is pretty weak and old (5 years), but for a system for that price you can't really expect more with the current shortages/crazy prices.
Very nice case (I have one), CPU is decent, 16GB mem and a 1TB SSD is perfect. It looks OK for the money, and you can always swap the GPU if you find a bargain. Only thing I'd really worry about is the make/model of the PSU, as it could be a complete shitshow.

The PSU is an
EVGA W1 600W 80 PLUS White ATX Power Supply
Thanks so much for the reply. I'll definitely be swapping the GPU at some point, but no rush. I reckon I'll be limited in what it can actually be, but the rest of it should do me for quite some time. I'm not depending on it being a great gaming rig, but to be able to run older PC stuff I missed will be of great benefit to me.

It will be a limited gpu but keep it to 1920x1080 and most games will run still, won't get the hardcore crowd erect but hit low on settings and bump things up or use GeForce exerience, steam do refunds for under 2 hours played auto.

Yeah I'm not looking to play anything new at max settings, I have my Series X for that kinda thing. It's more for a bit of dabbling with older games with mods, PC only indies, emulation etc. I'll buy a better GPU in about a year, if there's a bit of headroom there. The seller basically threw the GPU in for a few extra quid to get me going. I think it'll be fun to muck about with old RPGs and stuff.

My 3080Ti arrived yesterday, so I finished my first build since 2007 last night. Did a Bios update using the special USB port on the motherboard before turning it on, then plugged it into my TV and it POSTed first time! God, BIOS screens a bit more graphically exciting than when I used to build PCs. Windows installed in about 3 minutes flat onto my NVME and then I had a bit of faffing about because none of the LAN/Wi-fi drivers worked, so had to copy them over from my iMac.
I've got a 38" LG ultrawide coming tomorrow, a shiny RGB keyboard should arrive today then I'll get stuck into my first proper PC gaming session for over a decade – can't wait!
If anyone's interested this was my build:
• Coolermaster NR200 case in white (tiny form factor, looks lovely, feels super sturdy, easy to build in) • Asus ROG Strix B550-I Gaming motherboard (I've still no idea how such a small motherboard can hold so many things) • AMD Ryzen 9 5900X • Some RAM (32GB of 3600Mhz stuff with fairy lights on it) • Coolermaster V750 SFX Gold • Scythe Fuma 2 air cooler which looks like an industrial mandoline for slicing carrots • Samsung 970 EVO Plus 2 TB SSD which seems to be much faster than 5,400rpm 300GB hard drive • Gigabyte 3080Ti which just about fits in the case • LG 38WN95C-W monitor which is a refurb from ebay and should arrive tomorrow.
I've been playing Forza Horizon 5 for the past week and am keen to see how much better it looks on PC compared to the Series X. And once I've done that I'll fire up Cannon Fodder 2 and really put it to the test...

Horizon’s pretty efficient so expect it to be very smooth. The Series X is around a 2080 level so combined with the slightly lower monitor resolution as a rule you can expect 60+ fps at the equivalent of the Xbox 4K30 mode. You should be able to get it to monitor max refresh with a bit of tweaking (or just getting the in game dynamic detail to do it for you).
Good job on the 38 - hopefully it’ll be ok resolution-wise for your video editing as well but you’ll definitely notice the work space. It’s hard to go back.

Nice timmywimmywoo a massive card looks good in a nice compact case. I have the msi 3080 and had to swap the front intake fan to a slim profile one to accommodate it.

The fact that BIOS now have a proper UI and Windows doesn't need half an hour to install absolutely caught me off guard. The latter was so fast I thought something had gone wrong!

Any of you luvvery peeps got a good steer on a gaming mouse? I'm playing through Deathloop at the moment, and my venerable Microsoft Sculpt ergonomic mouse ain't cutting it. I need a couple more buttons I reckon, a lot more sensitivity, and I wanna keep wireless if I can. I'm not a big RGB fan, but equally I'm not fussed as long as I can turn it off and the premium isn't exhorbitant. Or maybe a literally shining mouse will convert me. Any suggestions gratefully received. Budget can be fairly high; a quick glance tells me I might need to spend £100 or more to get a winner. Given how long I've been using this old mouse, I'm OK with spending enough to get a decent mouse. Hit me with your faves!

I think I'm the only person in the world who can't be bothered with more than three buttons (including the wheel).
My brother gave me a gaming mouse as a present last year, and I've never used the other buttons. I do enjoy being able to change the sensitivity on the fly, but that's it.

I don't want 20 buttons or anything, but genuinely four, five, or even six might be useful. As I say, Deathloop being the thing that makes me want 'em. It requires slightly more contortion than I'm capable of giving it to switch between weapons and abilities, whilst staying on my toes and not getting creamed by the bad guys. I felt similarly about Metro Exodus, but soldiered on with that one.
I've managed with three buttons until now, and I got my first mouse at age 13, so I've held out for more than 30 years. ;-)

It's funny, back in the PS1/PS2 days, consoles were always seen as inferior to PCs in terms of how many things you could do with a controller. Nowadays I find that it's hard to get a keyboard to do the same thing as a controller, unless you are an octopus.
Why did it take devs so long to discover that they could map button combos (like say, LB + face buttons) anyway?

I love my Logitech G Pro mouse. Doesn't look like a reject from the transformers and feels great in the hand. Not the cheapest mind you...

I've been using Razer Mamba mice for the last 10 or so years. Perfect shape mouse in my opinion. Used to have the Wireless one but replace it with a corded one and I think I'll probably replace this one with a wireless one again next year or so.

Mine is a corded Logitech G402. Fairly comfortable and not too eye-catching. I also have a mouse bungiee, which is literally the best purchase I've made in the last five years.

Another vote for the Logitech G Pro. Got one last week and it’s great. Simple ambidextrous design with two side buttons. Wireless, adjustable accuracy and about £70.

Also, Black Friday coming end of month, coupled with Warehouse offers and you can get some ridiculous bargains, at like 50% off usual prices. Usually the time of year when I upgrade accessories and such.

Good tips. Following these suggestions I did some digging and the G502 looks good, and also the Corsair Dark Core which I came to via a roundup artical. Bit of a metal name, but I'll let it off. Waiting for Black Friday is an eminently sensible suggestion - just a few weeks away now.

I have a razar one, DeathAdder iirc. I bought it cos it felt really comfortable to use and it lit up nice with razar keyboard. Its about 3 years old now so don't even think you can get it but it's still solid.
Hardware wise its quite basic really, L&R, wheel, 2 side buttons and then refresh rate switcher the extra functionality comes with bloatware suite but I don't use it much beyond changing the mouse wheel to left clicks in ARPGs
My only real experience with wireless kit was waaaay back when they first came out and they had stupid amounts of latency so I went wired.

I don't think wireless mouse has nearly as much latency today, but I still prefer wired to avoid having to deal with batteries.

SteelSeries Sensei is still the best mouse, IMO.
I had a Razer Naga at some point because it was recommended to me on the WOW forums for MMOs, but I hated having a damned numpad where my thumb lies. I'd always inadvertently press 1 or something while just browsing on the PC.

Looooove my Logitech g900. They also do ace mouse mats, if somewhat expensive. Although Amazon sent me a box of them instead of just one. Probably thought a single mouse mat couldn't possibly cost that much. So all my gaming friends got early christmas presents.
