The one I remember was about a little boy whose "ugly brown face" got washed in the rain and then everyone liked him.

What did Enid do? I bought the famous five books for my daughters a few years ago which they read. Was I unknowingly poisoning their minds???! According to English Heritage, she's racist and xenophobic and even if she wasn't they say you shouldn't read her books anyway because she's a shit writer and her work has no literary merit. Free pass for Roald Dahl though because his estate buried an apology in the depths of small print on their website.

Dahl really was despicable. I don't subscribe to separating the art from the artist: surely what's appreciable in their art is they themselves, and if they are a big bag of septic antisemitic dicks, well...
Beside which, we've got a new better Roald Dahl in David Walliams. He really is aces.

“Hitler was right” has got to be right up there on the problematic-o-meter

He was a horrible anti Semite. I don't think it's that noticeable in the books, although I haven't specifically gone looking for it.

Ive reread a fair few of his kid's books in the last 10ish years and nothing struck me as particularly off in those, so it seems like he kept it out of there at least, unlike dear old Enid

“There is a trait in the Jewish character that does provoke animosity, maybe it's a kind of lack of generosity toward non-Jews. I mean, there's always a reason why anti-anything crops up anywhere; even a stinker like Hitler didn't just pick on them for no reason”
You can’t really say he was misinterpreted

He’s dead right to be honest- there’s something off with them and it’s not too strong to say I despise them.
No, sorry- thought it said Geordieism.

Who's trying to say he wasn't anti Semitic? Also that phrase is usually used the other way round.

Just bringing it into this thread as I am genuinely interested to having my view challenged, but I think the new non-binary pronouns are frankly a bit daft.
I can accept non-binary people. My issue is with the use of things like "xim" for pronouns. I just don't understand it.
We already have non-gendered pronouns in they, them, their. I'm not sure the extra complexity of having several new sets of pronouns is really worth it. Especially as they can be mixed and matched a bit. Plus it opens up the path for mockery and criticism.
unless I have the pronouns written in front of me, I'd likely just forget which pronouns an enby has chosen and just use "they" or "them" anyway.
So I'm genuinely curious what the rationale is for these new pronouns, when we already have robust non-gendered pronouns available.

The thing that baffles me is that xim and xer sound so alike to him and her surely that's defeating the purpose of what they're trying to achieve in not assigning gender. Maybe I've misunderstood it.

A neopronoun makes sense to me if there’s been confusion over the fact that the gender neutral pronoun is also the plural pronoun, but if I’m being completely honest and non-woke it does seem kind of arbitrary outside that. Though my view has been shaped somewhat by an unfortunate run in with someone who regularly adopted new, increasingly bizarre, pronouns and would take the opportunity to absolutely lay into someone and call them a bigot if they used the wrong ones. I’m absolutely fine with calling someone however they want to be called, but that shit was just nonsense.

My not particularly hot take is that stuff like Xim and Xer are more like identities than genders and once you start down the hardcore 'all genders are valid' road you may as well start classifying Alpha Male or even the ubiquitous 'Attack Helicopter' as a gender.
I mean, I would respect it if someone said they were it but it doesnt stop me thinking its pointless.

I can't find anything which describes what any of the neo-pronouns used refer to, so I guess it's just individual choice (or as JMC said, identity) which makes people decide what they want to use. That's fine with me, too. If that's what people say, I'll use them. It's never actually come up away from the internet, mind you.

As with most things, it’s something new and really not particularly difficult or troublesome that a vocal minority of the internet (on both sides of the aisle) have really dig their heels in about, leaving the people it genuinely impacts floundering in the middle without much support.
See also: the rise in people faking mental disorders on TikTok after genuine sufferers got attention by trying to show what “a day in the life” is. Which simultaneously led to a rise in “all mental disorders are fake” shite from the usual right wing idiots.

They do sound a bit like someone put that table together for the laugh... A lot are too close to what they're trying to distance themselves from.
I can see myself getting in trouble in years to come for calling a coworker "Invader Zim".
