Nah True Lies is just a bit cringe.
I think a lot of the problems with it come from Cameron trying to write a comedy. He isn't a funny writer, so when he tries he goes with the broadest strokes.
When he writes straight drama or action he's on safer ground, and usually writes strong female characters, but he failed in True Lies.

Remember reading recently how the daughter in true lies (the actress was 12 at the time) was abused by the stunt co-ordinator. She complained and told adults.. When the adults visited the production, she was put in care of the same stunt coordinator and promptly broke her ribs during a stunt the same day.
The movie had such a strange tone even back then, incredible stunts but in no rush to watch it again knowing about the seedy underbelly of went on.

Mmm, read about what happened during the making of T2 with Eddie Furlong and his on-set tutor for some more seediness.

You can’t make a bad film that features a hovering Harrier.

I think it’s possible to like True Lies and still recognise that it’s now problematic.
Would the film be that different if she suspected HE was having affair after catching him in a spy lie and her subplot was bored housewife spying on him to catch him with another woman, proving she has a talent for espionage but ultimate blowing his cover to Fart Malik? Probably not.

There's something odd happening with World of Warcraft. We all know the Activision Blizzard lawsuit and stuff, but following that the devs have been going on a bit of a crusade and replacing in game text and references to be more PC.
Some of the changes range from understandable stuff - renaming of NPCs named after some of the ex-employees named in the scandal. Other changes seem fair enough, others seem a bit arbitrary.
One quest in particular has a kind of riff on Don Quixote, an NPC trying to save "damsels", the joke being that the "damsels" are NPCS just trying to go about their daily business.
I can sort of see how maybe the devs want to move away from the helpless damsel storytelling trope, but by replacing "damsel" with the word "town dweller" it turns a quest chain that was already a critique of that trope into something quite nonsensical. Its not clear if its the word "damsel" they found objectionable, or if it's that one of the "damsels" is a male blood elf mistaken for a female, it's all a bit weird. Especially as nothing seems to have really been done about the actual work culture.
just feels like they're doing ctrl shift on any terms that seem slightly objectionable and replacing it without really thinking things through. Just a bit heavy handed and its not always clear what the intention is.

Just a bit heavy handed and its not always clear what the intention is. Is that the updated post-Cata questline in Un'Goro? Been a long time since I've played through that on Retail, but I seem to recall it wore its sending-up/parodying badge pretty heavily on its sleeve, clearly intended to be tongue-in-cheek and actually emphasizing the ridiculousness of the trope. It's hard, man. I want to be very supportive of the Devs who are trying to pick up the pieces of this absolute mess, especially given that Acti-Blizz have still not responded to their semi-unionized requests, which let's be honest clearly suggests that old Bobby and co seem intent on riding this scandal out if at all possible, together with the fact that there is so much vitriol and hate slung about by the gamergate anti-SJW morons within that community already, but sadly being overly zealous (or even giving the impression of being so in the slightest of ways) is just going to be red meat to those arseholes. Sigh. What a mess.

I haven't played WoW for years, but I remember that quest and I don't think there's anything objectionable about it in isolation. However, in the wider context of male blood elves being considered (by idiots) too girly and called "traps" and stuff, I can see why some dev might have taken a look at it and thought "let's not feed into that crap".

I've been getting a weird amount of requests to buy Dr Seuss books for the library. Specifically the ones that the estate took off the market because racism.
I mean, it's not weird that people are requesting them. But we don't have some secret supply of out-of-print books, we just go to Amazon like everyone else. And if those books are available, it's going to be for hundreds and hundreds of dollars. Which... fuck that.

Meanwhile FFXIV online has semi-naked dancing catgirls, scantily clad all-female playboy bunnies as a playable race, a vibrant erotic role playing subculture and yet also a reputation for being a wholesome game and community.

What I'd really love to see is them conduct a campaign to bring Enid Blyton's old racist stuff back from the memory hole. She's one of our greatest children's authors, but she was CANCELLED. Disgusting. You can't say anything these days.

That's one of those things where it's so, so fucking dumb that I want to believe it's a joke. Or that he knows how dumb it is, and is saying it because he wants attention.
Basically any possibility aside from "this guy really is this fucking dumb". I want to live in a world where nobody is this dumb.
