So Many Tears. Fantastically written and the music just fits. I think my second favourite is Hail Mary, that's just such a heavy song.
I still think his best and most important song was Brenda's Got a Baby. That was written when he was 19 and just shows why he will forever be remembered and studied.

Good shout for Brendas got a baby, crazy that he wrote it so young.
My fav has to be Trapped, again wrote even he was in his teens and the story telling is out of this world.

This is probably as good a place as any. I was following the new electronic music thread on Eurogamer recently and found some really good stuff on there, mostly nickbumfacespinkick's recommendations (trip hop, even though he hates the term) so had a listen to some 2pac on Spotify today after seeing this thread. Have to admit, I thought rap/hip hop music was all hos and bitches, but there was some really poignant stuff there
I'm completely new to these genres so would appreciate some recommendations, old and new
So far, the stuff I've liked on Spotify;
The Bug Andy Stott Throwing Snow Portishead Aphex Twin Park Hye Jin
Can start a music recommendations thread if people would prefer (or someone else can) if this is too off topic

...Have to admit, I thought rap/hip hop music was all hos and bitches, but there was some really poignant stuff there I'm completely new to these genres so would appreciate some recommendations, old and new... Here are some of my favourite rap songs, ones that I feel have thought and passion moving the pen, rather than money and radio play, which is the reason a lot of "hit" rappers stick to that type of music. And I'm not trying to degrade that music either, I like Candy Shop as much as I did when I was 12, but the height of rap is when you are forced to concentrate on the lyrics and forget the beat. "Keep ya head up" - 2Pac "Sorry" - T.I. ft Andre 3000 "Cocaine" - Royce Da 5'9" "Reflection" - Joell Ortiz "Best Friend" - Yelawolf ft Eminem "Only Human" - Joe Budden "It Was a Good Day" - Ice Cube "I Can Feel It" - DMX "Hold Ya Head" - Notorious B.I.G. ft Bob Marley "Cleaning Out My Closet" - Eminem "I can" - Nas "Drug Dealer" - Plan B "Doctor's Advocate" - The Game "Thugz Cry" - Bizzy Bone

Start there and then listen to all their albums.
Won't find many better out there.

Tupac couldn't get into any of his albums till all eyes on me. To be fair I prefer hip hop before it got gangster.

'Pour out a little liquor' is pretty dope.
Also always been partial to 'Soon as I get home' My first bit of freedom on the Internet in the late 90's had been trawling for unreleased 2Pac tracks (not porn?!) and I downloaded this gem. Fucking awesome and glad it eventually got an unadulterated release, even if it was on the very weak final posthumous album, Pac's Life.
I can't stand Califoria Love (though the album version is alright)

2 many to choose from but I’d go Hail Mary (even if the second verse is no match for the first and the voice over kills the creepy atmosphere towards the end), Only God Can Judge Me and left-field shout for How Long Will They Mourn Me from the Thug Life album. Breathin’ and Staring Through My Rear View are favourite posthumous cuts. Aunt Alison - way too many things to recommend, some good shouts already. It’s a hugely diverse genre and I think sampling a variety of the greats/classics, rather than listening to one artist’s whole discography might be a way to start and help you steer through the various sub-genres. There’s a list here compiled by one of the biggest hip hop Reddits of the top 100 rap albums in chronological order with explanations - can sort of tell a story of the development of the genre if you go one by one, or jump around a bit and see what takes your fancy: https://www.reddit.com/r/hiphop101/comments/1hrn0u/a_guide_to_hhhs_essential_albums_list_part_1/ Here’s a similar list but in a non-chronological order: www.shortlist.com/lists/best-hip-hop-albums-of-all-time-400060

A few great mentions already, but I've always liked Me Against The World (the album) - has some of my favourite tracks, and it's a quite personal and introspective album in general (was his last one just before he moved to Death Row and went all Thug Life).
Some of his posthumous stuff is good too - Only Fear of Death is a great track.
And California Love is timeless. The original version that is, though the remix is also good.

Maybe she felt like Cube should've used his AK, lol. And Tupac may not be top ten if you are viewing it from a song, hits, flow, etc. But the legacy that man was able to acquire, the artists he has inspired and will inspire, and just the impact he had on music on a whole, are the reasons that is will be one of the most important hip-hop artists to have lived. But to continue on the "not top ten" topic - I've never got the buzz around Jay-Z, I think he's a brilliant businessman, but I just don't see how he's widely accepted as THE best rapper ever.
