Re: Meredith If you reveal her plan to Maelstrom she ends up getting offed and you can find her corpse dumped in a river somewhere I actually felt it was too easy to make money after 2.0. Paying back Vik and paying a certain fixer's fee were originally supposed to nudge you towards doing freelance gigs but I was able to do both almost immediately last game.

Farewell, Jackie and T-Bug - we hardly knew ye. (Which, to be honest, made the 'big emotional moment' of Jackie's demise fall rather flat.)

It still gets me. He looks so sad at the end. The scene in Lizzy's during the Corpo intro where the Arasaka goons show up and Jackie has your back really sold me on him. I do think it's obvious how it will end with him though - he's a foreshadowing machine

The Corpo prologue is the only one in which V and Jackie already know each other, right? See, I think that makes sense - even though you (as the player) have only known Jackie for a few hours by the time he croaks, at least you can tell yourself that he and V have a substantial history together, and put yourself in V's position as he watches his friend die. In the Streetkid and Nomad prologues, you meet Jackie at the same time V does, then watch a 90-second montage before skipping ahead six months. It didn't work for me.

I think it's one of those times where the female V's voice acting really sells it as well. Male V is such a whiny shit at the start of Act 2

Re: Jackie There are two ways to see some form of Jackie again after his death. If for some reason you choose to send his body to Vik rather than to his family, shortly afterward some Araska goons show up at the clinic and take the body away. They hoped to learn more about the Plaza heist by using Soulkiller on him, but as he was already dead the results were a less than complete engram. If you go with The Devil ending, when Hanako guides you to Mikoshi, you can ask ker to bring up Jackie's engram for a conversation. Unfortunately, it becomes quickly apparent that the construct is not truly responding to what V is saying, only kinda disjointedly repeating a few of the things Jackie said shortly before his death. or... If you go with an ending where you give Alt access to Arasaka, then Jackie's engram, among others, fuses with hers, and when V connects to Mikoshi, before joining Johnny and Alt in Cyberspace, there will be a simulated scene of the rooftop of the Esoterica where a version of Jackie is waiting for you, saying the same things in that same slightly disjointed, not really responding directly manner. It's clear in both instances that it's not really him, not a conscious, thinking version anyway.

I'm honestly more upset about what happened to Barry than Jackie.

Whilst I get why people would like more time with Jackie I honestly think having an extended prologue would drag a bit, so I'm happy with the approach they took, and personally I bought their relationship.

Act 2 has been much better than Act 1 so far.
I'm not sure I 'like' Johnny, in the usual senses of the word, but he's definitely a compelling character.
The series of quests that involved tracking down Evelyn was excellent - I stealthed my way through Clouds, refrained from punching Fingers until our conversation was over, then went full-on Rambo at the braindance production facility.

Johnny is an arrogant cock. But... there are a few moments where he opens up, where he's a bit more vulnerable.
Johnny is massively egotistical (when Alt is kidnapped in the flashback, he can't comprehend that Alt was kidnapped because she was the target, he seems totally convinced she was kidnapped because Arasaka hated him - at that point I doubt Arasaka really cared about Silverhand much at all (not until he literally nuked the tower).
It's not talked about much but he's also a cyberpyscho - Mike Pondsmith, creator of the universe who worked closely with CDPR has confirmed this - and those pills you see him popping in some flashbacks are also medicinal to help the effects of that.
But he's also very much playing up to this stoic, character. He absolutely says and does things because he thinks it'll make him look cool and edgy. He bought into a myth of his own making.
But there's a couple of times where, if you respond in more empathetic ways he does open up and there's a trace of something deeper, of buried feelings
So yeah, he can be hard to like at times, but I think he's a very compelling character, and depending how your relationship with him develops he can either remain kind of antagonistic or become more empathetic - there's no right or wrong way for that to develop.

Just debating the order to do things on my current play through. On my previous play through (first since 2.0) I didn't unlock Dog Town until last, this time I've pursued the leads in such a way it's opened up much earlier... Might finish a couple of other leads first before heading there though.

Like Johnny or not, he's a great character I'm planning on accessing Dogtown as soon as possible this time I think it opens up after the Evelyn stuff and you get the Voodoo Boys quest? It's mainly because I want to be able to buy the clothes and start doing the car jacking missions
Also, that's interesting about Johnny being a cyberpsycho

Yep, the PL quests become available after doing the Voodoo Boys questline, so you can even do it before meeting Panam or the Japan Town parade. Or at least the quest to go there unlocks at that point, not sure if there's any other progress gating. Not sure how the level scaling works though, so wonder if going there ASAP would present a challenge

The Voodoo Boys are something I thought were underutilised. It felt like we had unfinished business after that questline. It ended on a pretty sour note the way I went about it

Well, I'd put it off for as long as possible, but today began my unrequited love for Panam.
I tried whipping out Sir John Phallustiff during our first encounter, figuring it'd elicit a chuckle if nothing else, but she didn't bat an eyelid.
Sigh.

I've progressed far enough into the campaign that Phantom Liberty is now available for me to start, but I've no idea at what point I should actually do so - any thoughts, fellow Font Geeks? For reference, I've almost finished gatecrashing the Arasaka parade with Takemura, so that's where I am in terms of the base game.

I did it last and it was fine. There's a very clear point of no return for the main campaign (it literally tells you). There were a few call backs to other missions and things I'd done which was nice. I think it does offer new ending opportunities from some things Mike posted but not the way I did it, so can't speak on that
The only other thing is that you gain access to a couple of things in general, one that will allow you to unlock/purchase a lot more vehicles. There's also some recurrent missions that get you decent loot and upgrade shards for your stats and carry limit. You'll also be able to get some powerful new abilities
The DLC is huge though so even if you leave it until later, so you'll still have plenty of opportunities to play around with the new stuff and it won't feel tacked on or like it's holding you back from finishing the game. Not in my experience anyway - I was grateful to be able to put the ending off for longer
The storyline is great

Oh and also, once you start it, you'll be locked into the opening act until you've completed that. After that, you can come and go to and from Dogtown whenever you like and complete the rest (and the main game stuff) at your leisure

I've pivoted my male V Streetkid from blades to blunt weapons - those blunt weapons being his gorilla hands. The psuedo stealth approach with knives and swords just felt off with this V - I think it's the slighty dunderheaded voice acting for male V, it just didn't work having him being all stylish and cool. But punching people before picking them up and using their body as a weapon to take down somebody else, whilst relying on adrenaline and inhalers to stay alive, whilst chucking grenades all over the shop in an indiscriminate manner and occasionally pulling out a double barrel shotgun or LMG as a treat? Yeah, this suits this V. I'll do a corpo fem V run next I think to explore knives and blades fully. (My one-true-V will always be the fem nomad, tech pistol and hacking V though.)
Need to work out a fit for this male V though. My nomad V went with David's jacket for the most part, I think corpo V will wear something fancy, but this V... he's just going to end wearing Johnny's stuff, I imagine. This V already has long hair and a goatee, may as well lean into the idea of Johnny's influence.

I'm now underway with Phantom Liberty, which has been excellent so far.
Not strictly related to the above, but Johnny's pistol is the most fun FPS weapon this side of the aimbot gun you get from Stompy McGee in Titanfall 2.

Ha, yeah, I wanted that gun as soon as I saw it - it's the reload animation - but didn't use it on my first playthrough due to my paranoia of becoming Johhny. I had his clothes, car, gun... Nah The Mox shotgun is nice (takes forever to reload though) and there's an explodey sniper rifle and precision rifle that I liked using, purely because they reminded me of the gun they get in Robocop

I love the Lizzie tech pistol - if your spec supports tech pistols it's just brutal. My main V pretty much ended up using it exclusively after she picked it up.
