Aren't the endings the same regardless of what starter you pick? All it does is give you a couple of extra dialog options in the game that are usually pointless.
I went street kid and got the same Panam ending as anybody else.

There are loads and loads of little things that are different depending on you starter choice that are good. However you aren't locked into a certain ending depending on your background.

I went street kid and got the same Panam ending as anybody else. Yes, but I find the character arc more satisfying as a Nomad than as a Corpo. Dialogue choices can change a fair bit, but broadly they all play out the same.

I thought the beginning sections were all pretty terrible, but the corpo one seemed particularly bad. The transition to the “working with Jackie” montage made little sense. It was also just a massive disappointment that they bait and switch the quest you are about to do.
All the prologues smell like cut content. I think the full play through I did was street kid.

All the prologues smell like cut content. They more or less admitted that I think. It's a pity the announced the lifepath thing so early on, something that really only impressed tabletop Cyberpunk 2020 players, so they couldn't back out of it - if they'd just picked one and committed to it, maybe they could have done a proper prologue.

It might not be the corpo one specifically, I can’t quite remember, but the majority of the plot, especially the setup, was primarily designed around one of them. The tie in to the other life paths were supposed to be dramatically different. It was supposed to be even more ambitious than that originally, selecting your childhood icon (Johnny Silverhand may not have even shown up in the game if you selected someone else), lifepath and reason for being in Night City that combined into the backstory and plot focus. They dropped that after they realized how difficult that would be to make meaningful, even though the final lifepaths have almost no substantive impact on the game too.

Street kid felt pretty "canon" to me, with V and Jackie meeting stealing the same car, they wanting to make big names for themselves in Night City and Panam (and probably Judy if you play female) trying to convince them they have a better life outside the city.
The prologue was super short though. It was so short that by the time I completed the first major story arc at Arasaki tower I thought THAT was the end of the prologue.
Oh and for those new players out there, don't bother investing any points into stealth. Unless they changed the AI immensely, it's not a stealth game. It's very Horizon Zero Dawn. The moment one enemy spots you, the whole place knows your location so you're murdering everyone. Invest in guns and melee instead.
Don't play it like Deus Ex, I guess is what I'm saying.

I don't know, I've definitely stealthed my way through areas especially when you get perks for silenced pistols and you can one shot people with a headshot.

Yeah, some of the quick hacks make stealthing around almost cheat mode.

I guess it depends on the type of stealth you prefer then. If you're going navy seal operative and headshotting everything it's probably fine. But in Deus Ex as the comparative example, you can choke people out and stuff them in boxes, essentially doing a (mostly) non-lethal playthrough. Not much options for that in this game, in my experience. Locations don't have many spots to hide for one.

Stealth has been revamped according to the notes.
I think it's possible to be fairly stealthy, especially with more perks and points. It's hard to play it like Deus Ex (well, depending on how you played Deus Ex...) but you don't always have to kill everything.
I still think it ends up feeling closer Deus Ex: Human Revolution /Mankind Divided than anything. Except with better characters and more interesting dialogue. It's not a "be whoever you want!" game but it's let's you create characters within a certain scope.

A few years back I would have been all about the stealth but these days I'm happier just shooting things in the face.

Just tried driving for the first time since the patch and ugh, I don't like it. I didn't mind it before. Cars seems too slippery now. My problem with the driving previously was never with the way the actual cars handled, but more with the waypoint pathing. It needs a big glowly marker in-game similar to something like Watch Dogs Legion, at least until you become familiar with the city. Cars move too quickly to look at the minimap while trying to stay on the road.
Oh and yeah, the RT mode's performance feels awful, and I'm not sure I noticed much improvement in the visuals either to make it worth it. Performance all the way.

If you think cars move to quickly to look at the minimap, you should have seen it before. The minimap was improved so it zooms out whilst your in a vehicle - it could probably zoom further out, no argument there. But originally it didn't zoom out *at all*. That wasn't great

The minimap was impossible when I played it last. It made driving anywhere a nightmare.

I don't know how anyone can flick between the two graphics modes and not see a difference. It's night and day.

Yeah, the RT looks so good the other option isn't even erm, an option.

I … don’t really see a difference other than the frame rate - what am I looking for? I‘ve played it on the PC on an RTX Card (after refunding the PlayStation version), and the “ray tracing” mode seems to have absolutely nothing to do with the PC version.

Yeah, on PC I notice a difference, but on PS5 the biggest difference I see is a higher resolution in RT mode, well and the much poorer FPS.
granted maybe it's more evident if you play more than a few seconds, think "this feels terrible" and switch back, but on PC it was obvious just flipping back and forth.

I played through Control with some fancier graphics and 30fps and felt it was OK but this feels pretty rough in RT mode.
Definitely agree the RT helps solidify the look, especially at night, but the judder and lag is very noticeable to me.

I was quite enjoying the look of it on performance but I've changed it over and it's janky as hell, despite being better looking. I've not tried combat yet, but I imagine it'll be impossible.

How strange, after you've finished Act 1 the NPC count just seems to rocket up in density.

Played a bit more of the trial last night and was convinced enough to finally make the purchase. Found out how to turn the head bob off, which made the game feel a lot less jerky, christ knows why that feature was on by default. Was quite fun running through a warehouse shotgunning fools. Kept finding myself on fire though, is that me being hit by incendiary rounds?

No that would be a cyberhack skill called overheat that they're using on you.
