Series S is decent value. Much like the Switch if you don't have a hard on for graphics then it's a perfectly great machine for games. When did 30fps become unacceptable? As long as it isn't dipping down to 10-20 every so often..

The series s is amazing. I got my son one for Xmas and I've been playing games like back 4 blood and halo infinite with him with the screens side by side and I'm amazed how good all the games look on it. Sure it doesn't look as crisp as on my X but for the money it's an amazing console.

I think the assumption was that the S would be getting the same performance/quality modes as the X, albeit at a reduced resolution. Between this and DL2 it's starting to look like the new trend is to just say fuck it and deliver a 30fps mode with no other option.

Although TBF dying light 2 has some piss poor optimisation going on, 1080p 60 on a PS5 and Series X?! It's very much a last gen game.

Love my S, Horizon looks incredible on it and runs like a greased pig. It’s the perfect gamepass ticket.

Cyberpunk, Dying Light and Gaurdians all run like shit on it which is what made me say such an awful thing. I've taken stock of the feedback and I apologise for any offence caused. I'm going to take a break for a while to gather my thoughts and hopefully I'll come back better.

30fps at 1440p is "run like shit" now?

With all the next gen graphical features turned off. For me personally yes, that's running like shit on a one year old console, despite the fact you saved a few quid when buying it.

Without wishing to derail this thread further. Is the One X on a par with the series S? Would I notice much difference if I traded in the One X for it? I use it as a gamepass / backwards compatible chap and although it's serving me fine, I don't know if I'll get a slightly better experience on the S. For clarity, I'm only playing it on a 1080p telly upstairs anyway (so I'm not even getting the 4K out the X as it is).

Its a game that ran like shit on everything for nearly 18 months. We probably dont need to do the african guy funeral dance for the S just yet.

Decks I like how your break lasted a good 7 minutes. I hope you did a lot of reflecting in that time.

They're pretty comparable, bar resolution but Series S has the upper hand in framerate in most games but the Series S only plays the Xbox one version of back compatible games no one X enhancements.

I believe the one X has more graphics poooower but the series s has a guccier processor and waaaaaaaay better hard drive speed.

Thanks chaps (or chap and chapess), so basically may as well just keep the one x for now. I do like the look of the wee S though so see how I feel in a few months.
Anyway... This game is in my head today. Dying Light may have to take a back seat after all.

I'd say it's probably the best console ever made.

It's the only console that you could snugly fit lots of together to build a small waist high wall. I'll tell you that much.

I just pretend I'm walking around Leeds on a Tuesday afternoon, circa 2.30pm—4.40pm. If you do that it doesn't feel unrealistic.

Yeah then it matches the game even better. Loads of freaky people kicking around, etc.
There's a part of CP which looks like Holbeck, so it's great hanging around there.

Starting to see the video clips popping up now with the same crumby AI and non existent vehicle pathfinding etc as before. Think on a lot of levels it may be beyond them to deliver the game that was promised without a ground up reconstruction.

Turning the inner deadzone down to zero seems to help with the input lag a bit.

I agree its probably beyond them, but the AI seems vastly improved - crowds actually react and do stuff, and don't disappear if you look away! cars react too. Enemies have surprised me with their flanking and behaviour. All fairly basic fundamental stuff but it does seem better. Crowd density is also noticeably better. Although I haven't explored much. I would say its a fairly big improvement, especially coming from PS4 version. If it had released in this state I think it would have got 10s across the board. The fact that it took 18 months to get to this point is insane though, and still leaves a nasty taste.

The AI was capable of seeming competent even in Cyberpunk Vanilla. The issue always seemed to be one bugged enemy's behaviour seemingly spreading like a plague and making the entire area crap out or simply not having the scripting to react to certain dynamic situations.
Looks a lot better on consoles now mind you. I might just chuck the trial on download to be a digital tourist for an hour or two. It's a gorgeous world even if it does basically have the depth of a movie set.

The fact that it took 18 months to get to this point is insane though, and still leaves a nasty taste. This really doesn't surprise me. For a studio with a culture of zero completion urgency and where success is structured around excessive crunch, the move to work from home where everyone has different work set-ups, distractions and working hours (because life just gets in the way at home) is so completely alien that it simply doesn't work. The very benefit of an office is to keep everyone together and all that shit away. With everything going back to normal this year you'll likely see far more productive output coming from the industry in general, though it won't be the same as before as so many are choosing to work blended.
