I assume there's some kind of weird US thing going on, because that story seems to make no sense. He doesn't have a license, but he had 'driving privileges' but they were suspended? He has an id so he can't have a license? Maybe it makes sense to Americans.

That is sad, I always thought he was engaging when I watched or read his views.

I met him when he came to Camp Bastion to film a documentary about the military hospital there. He seemed like a genuinely nice guy. I’ve got a photo of him somewhere where we’d made him a cup of tea in the “only clean mug we could find”, which just happened to have a massive pair of 3d boobs on it. He didn’t seem to mind.

Sad, although not entirely unexpected - with the best will in the world, I didn't see him being found alive after all this time, especially given the temperatures they've had in that area during the past few days.
RIP.

He has an id so he can't have a license? Maybe it makes sense to Americans. as i understand it (hah!) imagine honshu and hokkaido both issue driving licences and both islands accept eachother's licences. now because you failed to pay your late library book fine at tokyo library, your honshu driving privileges are revoked - you can't drive in honshu but you still have a driving licence and can still drive in hokkaido
seperately, because a driving licence is used for id purposes, if you don't have one you'll maintain a seperate id card instead.
i think the claim now is that his driving privileges were revoked in a state but nobody checked to see if he had a driving licence, later on his driving privileges should have been re-instated but weren't - but if he never had a licence to begin with...

Sad news about Moseley but it has felt inevitable for a few days now. Between the heat, the rocky terrain, his age and exposure to the sun its easy to imagine even a small fall or injury turning into a very dangerous situation pretty quickly.

Yeah- that’s really sad. He had a good way with presenting interesting health science etc to the public. His wife mentioned- can’t remember the phrase exactly- that he’d had some sort of confusion episode in the past, and that extreme heat or cold could trigger them.

That story of the father and son lost in the Highlands really got me as well.
My dad is about 70 and will still go on proper hikes like that solo. Mam isn’t really as up to it anymore so will stay in the cottage or explore a nearby town.
Whenever I read about that kind of isolation it really really does something to me. And there’s another story whose inquest reported back this week about a boy which gives me a physical reaction of grief and sadness and empathy just thinking about.

Yea I read about that father and son, pretty easy to feel complacent maybe. Michael Mosley was apparently found right next to a restaurant/beach.

Police force uses car to stop loose cow
This seems massively excessive to me. I hate to agree with James Not-So-Cleverly on anything, ever, but... yeah.

The cop steered right into the cow. Poor bugger had no chance to moove.
Udderly unbelievable. The driver is a real loose cow-nan.
