As ever, the problem and solution are not straightforward but the Govt present it as such. As you say, bigger dogs are more likely to cause proper damage. And likely to be owned by idiots. Banning them isnt going to stop other breeds being owned by arseholes, including more mainstream dogs like rotties, doberman or even German shepherds.

Indeed.
These Bully XLs were specifically bred to get around the ban on American Pitbulls. The fuckwits will just move onto the next thing.

Genuinely had never heard of them till this week. Can't move for poodle crosses here though. Including the stink bomb at my feet (smell is apparently a yeast infection in his ears, thank fuck).

Lucy Letby has requested permission to appeal against her sentences, unsurprisingly.

I will readily admit to not being a dog person; but the idea of owning a massive killing machine style dog does absolutely baffle me. Much like people in the US who claim to not be a danger but think having an assault rifle is a bit of fun. The risk/utility trade off seems insanely way off, though not being a dog person I obviously see the utility of owning a dog differently. Though also absolutely tiny handbag dogs, just get a fucking cat those things are useless as dogs. But dog related deaths have gone from 3.3 per year 2001-2021 up to 10 and whatever it is this year, most of which are these dogs. Indeed. These Bully XLs were specifically bred to get around the ban on American Pitbulls. The fuckwits will just move onto the next thing. I'm not so sure about this. I only read it this week but this article is interesting www.newstatesman.com/business/2023/09/american-xl-bully-dog-attack-monster-internetBasically due to TikTok/Instagram there is a massive fad for these dogs globally, so lots of people have been buying them in weird ways as a get rich quick scheme. Farming them out for breeding sessions etc. Basically a Ponzi scheme. But it also means lots of them are owned co-operatively or the person who "owns" the dog actually just pays someone else to take care of it. Hence lots of shit owners. Anyway with other dog breeds the Kennel Club deals with, there is presumably a well established system in place removing the need for the underground breeding so cutting out the get-rich element. Plus as it's a global social media thing, the UK would needs its own specific dog breed viral sensation that's not a registered one for the Ponzi scheme to work.

Got some cleaner from the vet (at a £10 mark up compared to online) which seems to be doing the job. A whole load of gunk coming out. Horp.

When they get wet, because the ears are closed it builds up. Every week I put that stinky stuff in just to keep him from getting it.

Yeah, it's odd, as he's not a water dog at all so god knows how it's developed. Also discovered he's got a heart murmur and won't make old bones. something my mum neglected to mention! Vet asked when last saw a canine cardiologist...errm, never!

My dog has a grade 4 murmur and she is 14. She is on meds that have made a massive difference to her but they do cost us about 70 quid a month.

Good to hear...said it's a grade 3/4 at the moment. Will see how he goes. Of course, there are no cardiologists on the island so over the water it would need to be.

Okay so rather than ban just do all this stuff from here on out www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-66829892"There will be an amnesty. So people that already have these dogs - and some of them will be well socialised, well managed, well trained - you will need to register and take certain actions. "Your dog will need to be neutered. It will need to be muzzled when out in public and on a lead and insured. "But if you comply with these actions, and that means we'll know where these dogs are, which will be a massive benefit, then yes, absolutely you will be able to keep your dog."

So exactly the same as all the previous bans, then.
The idea is, no new dogs of this breed can be bred, without having to destroy any properly registered existing dogs.
But after the ones that get registered die off, there'll be no more.

"We apologise for the confusion and angst" sounds like they are directing a complaint against those who complained. "We are sorry that the proles are too slow-witted to understand that the super rich like John Riccitiello have the god-given right to squeeze ever more money out of people, and are dismayed that people have displayed human emotion about this because that is a concept that psychopaths don't understand."

I was wearing a sheet as a toga because I'd just been rehearsing a play we were secretly putting on for the guards, when suddenly I slipped and fell under a truck. I tried my damnedest to get out, but the sheet must've tangled itself and the truck drove away before I could do anything...
I didn't have a phone with me, so obviously tried to find my way back to the prison by following the canal system as soon as I could.
