But that is not what he was arrested for. Granted, I am reading between a lot of lines here. But he was arrested for petty theft and I am sure she would have known that. And personally speaking, I think it is not unreasonable to see whether a mistake was made if no mention of the Greggs incident was made on the release papers.

I have a strict rule of taking one photo during a gig, if I'm even that compelled to bother.
I've been stood next to guys who have a whole set up; a massive stick and a stabiliser just to film it on their phone.

A friend of mine would record around 30 minutes of the gigs we went to and I didn't understand it then and still don't now.
The recording quality is shocking (especially the music) and you're taking yourself out of the moment.
If he does it with Pavement or Pup this autumn I'm going to smash his phone on the floor.

I think that's the thing that annoys me the most. Phone footage at gigs is unequivocally rubbish that you'll never watch back.
If it actually captured the sound well I'd understand a tad more.

Back in the day, I secretly envied those who would sneak up a camera or tape recorder and recorded a live concert, just to have a lasting memoir of the day; nowadays I can't help but feel nostalgic about having only a lighter-in-hand light-up the crowd during an emotional song - at least use a stick to hold you phone up, not your entire hand, FFS!!!

We vlog all our holidays, because we're lame millennials and it's fun to watch back (more for ourselves, we don't really try share them, but you get way better memories watching a half hour video of a holiday five years ago than looking through a photo album trying to remember what everything is). I got about 15 seconds of each set we saw at Glastonbury with the GoPro just for "here's what we did and who we saw today" purposes. That's it.

That's a bit different, though Zomoniac . The closest I've come to a fight in recent memory (you know, n'all) was at a gig where this ridiculous man insisted on braying loudly over the support act - who was playing an acoustic set, so all anyone could hear was this prick - and then trying to film the main act. I wasn't the first person to ask him to be nice and I was polite, but he threatened to punch me (amongst other lovely things) at which point, I very, very nearly lost my temper. In the end, he was asked by security - also politely - to stop annoying everyone else or leave, because no one had bought a ticket to see his noisy video show, which I thought was pretty spot on. Man, just watch the show. You'll have a much better time of it. |

Personally, I'm torn. On the one hand, I really enjoy watching old live videos on YouTube (especially for defunct bands I never got to see), which I obviously wouldn't be able to do without someone recording them in the first place; on the other hand, seeing a bunch of dipshits with their phones out at a gig (or any other live event, for that matter) annoys me no end. In the spirit of the thread:
I'm surprised that under-35s are the main target for this kind of thing, with them having grown up with the internet to such a large extent. Older people who may not be so tech-savvy, sure, but millennials? It seems weird.

When people near me have phones in concerts I go into full mosh pit mode and deliberately hit them over and over until they put the phone away. I fucking hate the things.

I think we actually may be the hardest generation to attack. We grew up in the Wild West of the internet where you had to be tech savvy to use it, plus the paranoia of viruses and worms seemed so much higher then. When was the last time you had to run a virus scan etc? I think our paranoia carried forward whereas under 35s maybe have a bit more of a blasé attitude maybe? |

The camera users at gigs drive me mental too.
My favourite night out/entertainment but I get put off going as much because of all these dickheads.
My first gig in a few years comes up in 10 days or so, desperately hoping to be less fannies in the group.
It's an old man band (Midnight Oil) so might not be too bad.
