Judging by his tackle technique, I'm guessing his English ancestors hailed from Wigan.

A bit of a disappointing start to the tournament, all things considered - France were way off the boil, and having to play 75% of the game with 14 men didn't exactly help.
Fair play to Ireland, though: they look like the team to beat.
I'm not expecting much from Italy vs. England tomorrow, so hopefully Wales vs. Scotland will give the opening weekend a bit of much-needed pep.

Didn’t realise France would be playing in Marseille this tournament due to the olympics

Didn’t realise France would be playing in Marseille this tournament due to the olympics I think they're doing a national tour, not sure if they even play in Marseille a second time.

Yeah while they do up the Stade de France for the Olympics they're touring, I think Lille and Lyon are the other 2.
Disappointing for France though they mostly did that to themselves. Lucu seems a bad replacement for Dupont.
Though the reffing of the ruck and offside seemed fucking bizzaro to me. Ireland constantly had hands on the floor, and the ball, or were just lolling around the wrong side of the ruck.

Likewise!
I still don't think they'll get within a country mile of winning, but they've made a bright start.

Genuinely pleasing to see Italy playing good rugby. Should also get a bonus point for artistic merit for the scattering pigeons on that last try.
England have looked sloppy in defence though.

It's a shame Odogwu is out injured - he probably would've been capped by England if not for Eddie Jones and his trademark bullshit, and it would've been good to see him run out for Italy today (in front of Jones, no less).

"Oooh the power" at the exact moment Freeman's arse popped out was very funny.

Rugby's one of the only things about which I'm becoming more conservative as I get older. I dislike the following aspects of the modern game:
- Players writing/drawing on their wrist tape. - Caterpillar rucks. - Replacements running in from the dead ball area to celebrate tries. - Feeding (and therefore no hooking) at scrums. - Replacements being used as a matter of course, rather than when circumstances dictate.
Bah bloody humbug!

Decent first half in the Italy vs. England game - better than last night's offering, for sure.
I'm expecting England to pull away in the second half, but I'd love to see Italy pull off a win.

It still looks like England are just going to bully and bludgeon their way to a victory here. When they just go direct Italy just can't hold them back.
I see ITV are keeping up their tradition of not even bothering to get an Italian on their team.

Did Motorway only provide the one bumper advert? It got old after the first run.

These pigeons are persistent. They need to get some Hawks in Twickenham style.

Nick Mullins and Lawrence Dallaglio - mute buttons on TV remotes across the country will be getting a workout.

The year is 2050, Italy and France are playing a grand slam decider. The ITV commentary team are AI chatbots trained on the bland management speak of the 2003 England team in their virtual metaverse studio.
