I'm not watching, it's a dead rubber really, but surely he's got to be on his way out. Hopefully the suits look at the performances and not the favour that Wales did us earlier in the day by ensuring we can't finish fifth.

That try was pretty good. Bit of a fight back.
Still feel like we need France's heads to go to give us a chance. Happened plenty of times before, but this version of France doesn't seem fragile.

France deserve the Slam easily the best team. England back to being infuriatingly less than the sum of their parts.
I'm not sure we're bad enough to make firing Eddie a no-brainer. Who could we get the get that would definitely be better? He's still easily the best coach we've had since Woodward.

Never understood the praise for Jones as a coach, there was a point about 2/3 years ago I thought maybe I’d been wrong in my assessment, but seeing how clueless he’s been the last 2 6Ns just confirms to me he’s an absolute chancer

Yeah, Jones is a grade-A spoofer. The emperor has been stark-bollock naked for the past two years at least; meanwhile, the RFU has swept so much crap under the carpet in that time, it looks like a relief map of the Himalayas.
If it were up to me, I'd ditch him on Monday morning... but I do admit that it's not an easy call, due to both the issue of finances and the lack of an obvious replacement.

You've forgotten how dire we were under Robinson, Johnson, Ashton and Lancaster?
Sure we've got every advantage: most players to choose from and most money, but history shows it's an incredibly tough job in practice.

Ashton was a great coach, hampered by some massive egos in the team, very little time to prepare for the tournament and loads of meddling from within the RFU

That's true but isn't that also one of the reasons it's such a hard job. You need to have a strong personality to manage the political side on top of the basics.

NZ manage it consistently with a fraction of the player pool or assets. We make it much harder on ourselves than it has any right to be

Comparing us to NZ, Ireland, even Wales is a false equivalence because the Prem clubs have so much sway over player availabilty, playing time, and time in an international camp. An international player in England is playing something like 25% more over a season than their equivalent in Ireland, NZ etc via the league, cup matches etc. because the RFU have no clout and no central contracts, whereas the other unions do.
Jones needs to fuck off in any event

I haven't - as much as I'd like to! - but I don't think these situations are exactly alike.
Robinson and Lancaster were second-in-command coaches who were given the top job on an interim basis when their superiors resigned; then, when the ship didn't immediately catch fire and sink, the RFU took the path of least resistance and made them permanent appointees. To the best of my knowledge and recollection, no serious attempt was made to head-hunt replacements for Woodward and Johnson.
Johnson was one of the best players and captains we've ever had, so the RFU decided to treat him like a lucky rabbit's foot and put him in charge, seemingly in the hope that his mere presence at Twickenham would inspire a return to the glory days. Surprisingly, Johnno agreed to give it a shot, despite his total lack of coaching experience; unsurprisingly, it didn't work out.
Only Ashton was actually cherry-picked for the job, insofar as I'm aware. He seemed like a good person and a great coach, but too much of a nice guy to succeed in the head honcho role. (By comparison, Jones is an abrasive cunt who's far too unpleasant to succeed in that position - some sort of happy medium is required, methinks.)
In any case, I do agree that it's a tough job and I can't see an obvious replacement. I still want to see Eddie Jones fuck right the hell off, though.

I don't know enough about the wider game, who would be available etc (pretty much anyone given the salary is my guess) but sticking with Jones because of that doesn't seem right. In fact, it's that lack of pressure that can lead to complacency. Perhaps they're waiting for Borthwick to gain some more experience.

He’s rebuilding the team to be fair, can’t expect him to have built a foundation and gradually bled the next generation of players after just 7 years in the job

The really crushing part of it all is you just know that a fit Farrel, Vunipola, Tuilagi et Al will be in the squad for the WC after all this talk of rebuilding

Maybe this all stems from turning Farrell into a bang average 12 from a bang average 10.

I wouldn't mind EJ's obsession with Farrell to quite such an extent if that were true, but Farrell can't tackle for shit (not legally, anyway) - he just drops his shoulder, makes no real attempt to wrap his arms, and relies on his reputation as the golden boy of English rugby to keep him out of trouble with the ref. (Depressingly, said approach works more often than not.)
Barring injury, Smith and Ford have to be England's first-choice 10s between now and the RWC; if that means jettisoning Farrell altogether and finding a new captain, so much the better.

Like I said, he tackles hard. The opponent knows they’ve been hit by him whether they’ve been tackled properly or not

My only quibble is with the word "tackle." If we can agree that he shoulder-checks hard, I'll be a happy camper

Women's Six Nations has started, actually live on the BBC and they've got Ugo Monye, Brian Moore and Magie Alphonsie leading the coverage. Like they put all the good pundits on it. No more Lord Skelator Woodward, Johnnie doesn't know any player names he didn't play with Wilkinson or fucking Jiffy.
