They came so very, very close to fucking it up. Hopefully tomorrow's game is better than that.

Hangover shit performance level.
Goodbye to a few stalwarts. Can't see England being a serious force for at least 2 WCs and even then Farrell will be stinking the place out in some way.

Predicting 8+ years ahead is weapons grade pessimism. Though I do understand the sentiment I'm not sure we're that doomed.
Hilariously, despite being shit England are the third best team in the world and Farrell is the tournament's top scorer (for now) despite missing the opening two games.
We're pretty good at being a factor at World Cup's by hook or by crook.

I think the rankings place of 5th is more reasonable. Otherwise you start to get logic that Argentina are better than Ireland.

Let's be honest: England are barely the third-best team in the Six Nations, never mind the world.
A cushy RWC draw, a few lucky wins, and a semi-final played in atrocious weather that suited their conservative style of play down to the ground - all of the above serve to flatter Borthwick and company.

Yeah I do think his brand of anti-rugby is going to hit some hard limits during the 6N. Stifle the opposition, kick the leather off it, always go for 3 points, but most of all really make sure the game is played where you want it and stop the other team's plan first.
As you're setting up to just always attempt to be in the lead by 1-6 pts that way, and as South Africa demonstrated 1 try wipes that out. France in particular can score out of absolutely nowhere, or it just takes a rogue kick and the bounce of a ball for Louis Rees-Zammit to scorch off into your rear views.
Samoa and Argentina both almost showed it up. Argentina who's fly-half is a converted wing and seem to have spent the World Cup playing with dicks for fingers.

I see S.a. have gone 6-1 on the bench again. I actually like S.a. but have unreasonable hate at the same time for just/LUCKILY beating the lions, just beating England last week and beating England last WC final.
Come on NZ!

I have a soft spot for the Boks, for some reason or other, although I do think that Erasmus (like Jones) is a stain on the game.
It probably has a lot to do with watching many of their key players ply their trade in the Premiership over the years, whereas the All Blacks (like England) won't select players who are based overseas - at least, I think that's the case.
As long as the game is as good as two of the QFs were, I'll be happy regardless of who wins.

In what way was the Lions series win lucky?
I have a soft spot for Erasmus. Not the ref bashing stuff. But he's a great coach and genuinely amuses me sometimes. Like before the Ireland game unfollowing everyone on twitter except the IRFU.
And yeah the All Blacks you have to play in New Zealand, same as Ireland, France or England.

Bold prediction: South Africa will be leading at half-time, albeit narrowly, and New Zealand will pull away during the final quarter.

Refereeing has been soft from the 3rd week onwards this World Cup after being all over the place the first couple of weeks.

It has been upgraded, I'm not surprised that it got changed but in a final? Wow.

I seem to be alone but I hate the rules as they are. He tried to wrap and the player was going down. In replays things look worse but he tried to tackle him and the attacking player went lower and it's just ruined the game.

If the head injuries weren't a thing I'd agree with you, but for the good of the game these sloppy tackles have to be cut out.

Cane was always too upright.
I get that old habits die hard, but it can't be *that* difficult to remember to bend at the waist when attempting a dominant tackle, even if it's just to provide mitigation if you make contact with the head by mistake.

I think the chance to tackle caught him by surprise, suddenly the SA was tuning towards him and he threw his arms out. Stupid tackle, seen worse get let off in this tournament, pretty bad game will probably get worse now

My French is a trifle rusty, but it seems implausible that Barnes and his colleagues are part of some institutionalised stitch-up. I think the Tweeter is still sore over the semi-final result.
Still, Foley should've picked that up if it was even half as bad as it looks.

I was so looking forward to this but this is messy and boring. All because of the rule book. Zzzzzz
