I wouldn't have minded Mitchell getting a game, but I guess he might be match-fit yet - he was cut from the squad at the end of June, so that's 1.5 months ago. (Granted, I'm sure he has been active in preseason training with Saints since then.)
I'm guessing it's either a (perceived or real) lack of preparedness, or else he's going to France as third fiddle behind Youngs and Care no matter what he does in the meantime, and Borthwick won't give him a game unless he has to.

Yeah but Leinster utilise the mad skills of Stuart Lancaster. Though I do agree coaches reputations often hinge on the systems already around them. Taking on an RFU job with all the resources in the world and losing is extremely bad. Taking on a settled Ireland job with Leinster pathways... Eh. Or being All Blacks coach. Actually impressive jobs people have done. Garland dragging Wales out of the shit show of 2007, any Italy coach that actually gets them playing, Rassie after the mess SA were in and somewhat Townsend considering the paucity of resources available in Scotland. Or Jamie's Joseph in the 15/19 World Cups with Japan. |

Lancaster’s off to Racing now. He’s a good coach, the england job just came far too early for him. I’m pretty happy having him at Racing, if he has a few good seasons in France then after that would’ve been the time for a national coaching gig
For all the resources available, the england job must be one of the hardest, having to deal with the fuckwits at the RFU and all their bullshit is going to take away from your actual job of coaching a squad of players. The whole Sam Burgess fiasco they engineered fucked our 2015 chances and Lancaster had to take the fall for it, balls to that. He did a decent job considering how little clout he would’ve had, he couldn’t even pick his own staff iirc
