I don't think I've ever been this pessimistic about our chances before a World Cup. When was the last time we were this much of a mess? My memory goes back to 1995.

I think Cole was grandfathered in (possibly in a literal sense).

2015.
Cole is probably about 10th on my list 'but why' players. 20minutes from the bench and he'll do a job in the scrum and maul.
I seem to have grown a necklace of onions and found 15 baguettes in the kitchen this morning.

2007 we were holders and I guess I kind of expected a response from all the experienced heads. I didn't think we'd win it, but I wasn't worried about getting knocked out early. I thought we'd beat all the northern hemisphere sides.
2015 I naively (as it turned out) thought we could win it, given home advantage and some of the talent in the squad. Again, I only felt truly worried about NZ and SA.
This time I'm not confident we'd beat any of the 6 nations sides other than Italy and none of the rugby nations sides. I'm looking at one of easier groups and thinking Japan and Samoa could beat us nevermind Argentina.

Just seeing Dan Cole on the bench signals to the opposition that, if you weren’t sure, we’ll definitely be playing for percentage, set piece rugby for the last 25 minutes at least

Yeah fair enough. But if Stuart and Sinckler stay fit I reckon Cole only plays Chile and Japan.
Can't think of another TH to take his spot

If Borthwick doesn't want Tuilagi to be ruled out of the tournament by a stiff breeze, he'll have to wrap him in cotton wool for the next few weeks. Same for Vunipola.
With three warm-up games left, a lack of strength in depth across certain positions, and a need to balance steadying the ship with the frailty of certain players, it'll be interesting to see who makes the 23 for Saturday's rematch with Wales.

There's a rumour that his groin injury has reoccurred

Might put a tenner on him limping off in the second half of the friendly and ruled out for 6 months

And yet it will definitely go better than 2015. I dunno. Argentina will fancy an "upset", they have our pack for sure and they beat us at home. They're legitimately favourites for this game Samoa have stopped being the tackle guys. Now they're the tackle guys with a backline forged in the glorious bullshit of France 2015 again would not be a surprise

If he can do a half he’ll still be automatic first choice for 6N

Fuck it. Someone had to stick their head above the parapet.
The RL Challenge Cup final today was a hell of a game. Used to follow KR as a kid but dropped off for many years.
Watched it today thinking of my Dad who was a big KR fan. Not the result I would have wished for but golden point is what it is.
Quite an eye opener with mic'd up refs and talking through video ref decision making. Player discipline with refereeing was as ever excellent. Could teach the Prem a thing or too.
Superbly entertaining.

I always enjoy a bit of League, actually. Seems to be much more to it than years back, teams properly putting it through the hands on the fifth tackle. Love to see it.
There England Wales game is not good, and I'm reliably informed it is better than last week 😅

I do love the Leigh owner who's gone full in on the leopard bullshit.
Also I see Freddie Steward continues to be a useless lump.

Shoulder Boy strikes again! The only surprising thing is that he saw red for it, as he gets away with those 'tackles' more often than not.

barchettaGlad you enjoyed the RL game, despite the sad thoughts it understandably conjured.
