Instead we go South Africa AND Ireland, and I'm staring down a deep chasm of despair. I'd also accept the group with England and Argentina. (the one with France and New Zealand no thanks.) The whole thing is a farce before it even starts.

I read some salacious scuttlebutt on a rugby subreddit - so take this with as much salt as you can scrape together! - to the effect that Hogg hadn't been around the Scotland camp of late, following some, erm, "disciplinary issues."
Could be sheer coincidence, of course; then again, maybe not.

I dunno he was always going to retire at the end of the World Cup due to his legs being fucked. Seems weird that his discipline would be so bad on that one last shot; more likely his legs are just gone and he's picked up and injury that's ruled him out.

You may very well be right.
The speculation was centred around his personal life, if memory serves - I shan't regurgitate it here, but the gist was that *something* had happened and prompted him to go on a bender, which in turn caused him to miss training.
Regardless of the reason(s) for his sudden retirement, it's a shame he won't be going to the World Cup. Always struck me as kind of a helmet, to use Joe Marler's preferred terminology; however, he was a brilliant player, there's no denying that.

When Gavin Hastings had the record he got 4 against Ivory Coast in a single game. Hogg had to do it when Scotland were shit and in the six nations, we averaged a try every other match before him. He's also third most capped captain and 4th most capped overall. Shame Murray fractured his face during the 2017 lions. Feckin Munster. |

Just a 3 match ban for Johnny Sexton for acting like a prick. Could have been worse, he'll miss the WC warm-ups but not the main event. Still, he'll be going in with no match fitness after being out for a long time now.

Borthwick seems to be cut from the same, "Treat 'em mean, keep 'em keen" cloth as his predecessor.

I'm really starting to look forward to the RWC. Probably have France as my second (entertainment) team as Japan have gone backwards (because they keep getting turned down for tests against T1 teams and the RC suits and NZ are cunts)
